Help Requested! Vintage Wool Cap

Haven’t seen a cap with numbering and lettering like this before? Does anyone have a guess as to what it is - school? Sport? Has “PM” and “92” on the sides and has a Derby (medium) tag. Thanks!

Anyone?

Thought I might bump this one. Any thoughts? Thx!

The style and placement of the letters/numbers looks like it probably was a 1950's-60's US Air Force crew members cap. These were really popular especially at air bases in Japan after the Korean War. The colors and numbers/letters correspond to a particular crew and plane and can be found in all sorts of colorful configurations. Some militaria collectors specialize in these crew caps.

Check to see if there is a maker label inside.

Thanks! “Derby” tag inside the band.

Here's a link to an old thread at the US Militaria Forum that discusses a similar cap. It appears that Derby was a Louisville, KY company and produced the cap discussed in the thread which came from a 1960's Air Force vet. There's some additional info on Derby, including that they did manufacture some headgear for the US military:
