Net54baseball Contest- Immediate answer required

So let's give this a try again. First to answer correctly in this thread wins a Net54baseball T shirt. I will be the final say on this contest, as to the winner, but the first one to answer correctly wins.

We all love our National Chicle sports and non sport cards but what what year and what company was National Chicle Co. formed from?

This is NOT American Chicle and it is not the National Chicle Products company. What I am looking for will be pre 1940. If there is any dispute I will pick the closest answer to win, but I think I have the definitive answer. If not, well, it's fun to talk about and the closest guess will get the T shirt. Good luck!!

The reason I was a little ambiguous in how a winner will be chosen is because I saw a few different things when looking this info up. I am not going to say if the year answered is correct or not, but even if it is, it is only half the answer. And if we find out my info isn't correct then this answer if correct, could win. But regardless, the document I have seen shows some more info....

Don't know but I am curious . I know people tried to make tires from Chicle in the late 1800's and failed .

CTDean 01-15-2015 09:13 AM

The World Wide Gum Co.

CTDean 01-15-2015 09:17 AM

Griffith & Co became known as National Chicle in 1910.

Griffith and co. 1899

bnorth 01-15-2015 09:33 AM

Griffith and Co. 1901. I was going to guess 1899 but was already taken.

Louis Chaldecott the secretory and treasurer committed suicide in March 22nd of 1907 and it was already known as National Chicle Co. then.

Per the national Corporation Reporter Volume 39, the name was changed from Griffith & Co to National Chicle Gum Company in 1910. That said, I am not sure if that answers Leon's original question or not, as I do not know if a name change is what he was looking for.

I believe that this post qualifies as a Molina (post too slow). See #5 in this thread.

1934 the Goudy Gum Company

Leon 01-15-2015 11:45 AM

OK, have only a moment at the moment. I don't see the correct answer above yet. At the end, if no one gets what I am looking for, I will show what I have and declare a winner. It wasn't 1934. :)

bnorth 01-15-2015 12:14 PM

Griffith and Co 1902

I will try Griffith and Co changed to National Chicle in 1909? August 8th if I remember correctly.

Leon 01-15-2015 02:13 PM

National Chicle was ....

I will give the answer later this evening. You guys are really, really close. But from what I will show I think we will have an almost definitive agreement. And then, if no one is exactly correct, I will decide (as fair as possible) who is closest. Good luck and thanks for playing so far!!

Not quite, and remember, to win both answers have to be given and acknowledged.

To clarify a bit, as to when National Chicle was formed, what I am looking for specifically is when it started being called National Chicle Co. The more specific the better.

sorry for any confusion I caused. :o

thanks again to all who have guessed so far!!

Griffith and Co. started National Chicle Company Aug. 21 1903 Statement filed and license issued, final certificate issued Nov 3 1903

This could be the answer. The question though, is when did they start being called National Chicle Co.? If you can verify your information you should probably be the winner, Ben. I am leaving a tiny bit of wiggle room on purpose.

I am going with the 1903 formation. I knew there could be some ambiguity and that is why I made these rules the way I did. We will do another, guess the price contest, in a few days.
and T shirt award will go to Pete also, as he guessed 1903 and Griffith too........Pete.....LMK

btcarfagno 01-15-2015 05:02 PM

The google doc that I saw was that the name change from Griffith & Co to National Chicle Gum Company happened in 1910 officially. That would be when they started to be called National Chicle. No? Instead of National Chicle being a subsidiary of Griffith as it was in these 1906 papers?

Damn shirt giveaways. Gah!
