The 1913 National Game card set & the 1914 Polo Grounds card set?

I think they are beautiful with great photos and wonderful backs. National Game cards even include the US Patton date and number!

When I started collecting these, I found them an affordable way to collect the greatest Hall-of-Famers at a reasonable price.

I always liked the National Games.

The 1909 James Jeffries playing card is a nice set in similar vein for boxing collectors.

The series that are on playing type cards have great pictures and are usually more affordable than most others. Another great way to collect on a budget. Big stars still cost some but not relative to most, except strip cards. (scans aren't to size)

Love them but terrified of getting hooked.

Leon - I have that Monte Cross card...it was my first 100-year-old card and I chose him from a group because I felt his appearance best represents that age of baseball.

When I was collecting my HOF collection I used these type, sets for some of the bigger players to make them affordable. Two years ago I sold off almost all of my prewar but did keep 7 of my HOFers including this one which I am now thinking about selling.

my first pre-war card

It never occurred to me that collecting pre-war cards was even a possibility for me and my budget until I was browsing ebay and saw this card. It opened up a whole new world. And soon after I found Net54.
