Broad Leaf 460 Found by a Net54 Member!

Erick already posted it in the pickups thread, but I felt like this find deserved its own thread (I'm biased of course :D). You can read the story here:

Super awesome. Congrats on the BL 460!

I really enjoy these discovery threads. Nice find and even better that Erick plans on keeping it for awhile at least. Fun card to own.

Awesome find Erick!! Once again the Hound comes through with an incredible find!! :D I was looking at that auction in Huggins & Scott as well. So glad that you pulled the trigger on it!

Best,

Steve

Thanks guys. I'm excited to be back after being away for awhile. I had a few members contact me recently which peaked my interest and got me looking at auctions again. I'm certainly glad they reached out!

Hound Freed

Erick,

Who rescued you from Leon’s back yard?

clydepepper 02-19-2018 02:44 PM

Not being a back collector or even being sure what soaking entails, I'm guessing that this 'poster' had cards on each side covering any backs and each card would have to be 'soaked' in order to remove it and to discover the back.

If that's a correct assumption on my part, then how did Erick know they were Factory 460's prior to purchasing and soaking them?

Again, please forgive my ignorance in this field.

The article contained a good explanation (for me anyway) by Erick as to why he pursues T206 backs. So, if I gain nothing else from this thread, there is that...and thanks.

I didn't know... I simply hit the lottery. I was simply curious and took a chance.

congrats erik!

Congrats Erick,

I’m not a back collector so how hard is that back and curious what value ballpark did you unearth. Great story and congrats!

I'm no expert either so I can't speak to value, but based on this excellent resource site (http://t206resource.com/), the BL 460 is #4 on the scarcity list for T206 backs (#3 if you don't count Ty Cobb back).

Searching through previous auction results through google for broad leaf 460 T206s, you'll get an idea that even a common can go for some good coin. For example here's a Kid Elberfeld PSA 1 from REA with a write up to shed some light on the difficulty.

Incredible find. Cool to see that this stuff is still out there, sometimes even hiding in plain sight!

I was the writer for this auction lot and am thrilled for your find! There was no way to determine the backs so this was definitely a shot in the dark that worked.

Congrats €r!©k! I have always wanted to try a lot like that, and briefly considered the one you bought, but I never end up pulling the trigger.

Northviewcats 02-20-2018 01:16 PM

Outstanding pick-up. Congratulations.

JeremyW 02-20-2018 02:35 PM

Congrats. This is the second BL460 find on Net54 in the last year. I think the other was hidden on an old wooden trunk lid. What are the odds?

This is AWESOME!.......

First of all......Luke Lyon is one of the premier experts on this set....KUDUS to an AWESOME SITE!Always new articles and updated.....I'm embarrassed I have not contributed more, I have been totally sidetracked lately, but never lose the "bug".....Luke just speechless I am:eek:

I have to say, finding the BL 460 couldn't have happened to a better guy.....Erick's expertise is SADLY missed......definitely by me....

after chatting with him before he got the cards, I said" imagine a BL 460!!??" or even a BL 350....we were like kids on Christmas....was great to experience the "find" with him, and renew his vigor....

:)

Happy MRVSTER;)
