Very impressive! I am a bit older and have accumulated a lot of Cubs autographs; on cards, photos and baseballs. My team was from the 50's and Hank Sauer was my favorite all time Cub. Picture not too great but I didn't want to take it off the wall.

As a Cubs auto collector it would have been nice if Andre Rodgers signed more cards...Fukudome, too.

It took me quite a while to hunt down an Adolfo Phillips that wasn't insanely expensive. Randy Myers was a bit annoying to hunt down, too.

Got a couple huge Cubs cards in the Brockelman auction. Kiki Cuyler's rookie card (I guess? Depends on what you think of Exhibits as rookie cards) plus Santo's rare 1967 Stand-Up. I feel like I way overpaid for Kiki but got a deal on the Santo. First time I've seen either for sale.

How about two guys on your list for the price of one?

I've got the black and white one but not the funky colored one.

The first Chicago NL star in 1876, the first year of the NL, Ross Barnes.

Shankweather 10-09-2023 11:40 AM

Holy smokes look at that. That's a beauty. I will not presume to ask for a price, that looks like it's in the forever collection. Anything on the back?

GaryPassamonte 10-09-2023 11:46 AM

I don't have a scan of the back. I'm sure it has the photographer's ID and possibly a faint Barnes signature.

Well then I will presume to ask you to scan the back haha. You've got to document that artifact!

Maybe someday.

Also stoked to get this Nixey Callahan supplement from Brockelman. The only issue to show him as a Cub (Orphan/Colt whatever).

Here's one of my favorites, although I'm not at all sure why these subjects appear together in this set from 1936:

That picture makes no sense! What in the world. Tris Speaker? C for Chicago or Cleveland? Or Cincinnati?

BioCRN 10-09-2023 02:58 PM

For a very short time in the early 30s Tris Speaker did radio for the cubs. It was in the early 30s, not the mid-30s, though.

Well that would make sense, because Taylor and Cuyler played together 1929-32. But I never knew that about Speaker.

Yes, Spoke was there in the booth for a brief while in 1931, but it's odd that he's in uniform (maybe a Spring Training hitting coach?) and odder that they would use such an old image given how the remaining cards are far more contemporary to the issue date. They must have really wanted to include Tris. Fine by me. Probably not much stuff out there connecting him to Chicago.

Very excited to add this little piece of history to the All the Cubs collection, from last night's HA auction. 1888 cabinet showcasing Al Spalding's Australia tour. My second Stevens Art Studio cabinet.
