T213-1 Coupons on ebay yesterday (29 Oct 17)

Did anyone here win any of the five T213-1 Coupon cards on ebay yesterday?

I won the Engle. I just got a message from ebay telling me that they removed the listing, and that I shouldn't pay for the card. I just checked, and all five of the cards have been removed.

Does anyone know what happened?

It was a very bad deal. All of that seller's cards are counterfeits. You are welcome. :)

I was following those, but didn't bid. Was wondering how five appeared at once.

I should mention it was another forum member who showed the listings to me. I reported them through their system and viola.... it was like magic.
Collectors should be a bit leery of lower grade, raw T206's or T213-1s, with rare backs and which have scrapbook remnants, or stories of that nature, attached to them.

What was the eBay name of the "seller"?

I completely agree Leon. I looked at them and didn't see anything that looked bad to me, so I made an exception to my normal rule of PSA/SGC graded cards only on ebay. This was the first time I've bid on a raw card on ebay (except for modern certified autographed cards) in well over a decade, when I was working on my LA Rams and Dodgers team sets.

Looks like I'll go back to the drawing board.

Thank you again Leon, for helping to keep things honest!

Here's the Hindu Mordecai Brown sold last week from the same seller. Any thoughts?

The fronts have been fine. It's the backs that have not been so fine.

To me, the Hindu back's color appears to be wrong. It looks more of a burgundy color than brown or red.

My guess is that the seller may have taken Piedmonts or Sweet Caporals, and rebacked them with fake rare backs.

Since we are on this subject.
What do you guys think about this card?
It’s raw and if real do those marks on face side
constitute a MK qualifier in your humble opinion.
Thanks

Yeah they are all real fronts and fake backs.

What a find for this seller, hall of famers with tough backs on scrap book
paper thin enough to see through

Larry, can you post a high res scan of part of the back.

I agree that m brown back looks almost red... and appears kind of grainy to me.

The Hindu looks obviously miscolored, but what was the tip-off on the Coupon backs? I'm trying to educate myself on how to spot these?

Subsequently, outside of eBay, do the other auction sites vet these things? I.e., is it safer to buy raw cards from Sterling, Heritage, etc.?

Ebay vets nothing. It doesn't matter where you buy any of these type of raw cards you need to be careful. Buy from a trusted source is #1. The backs of these fakes will look a little blurry but are very, very good and can/have fooled longtime experts in the field. So far I am not aware of them getting past the TPGs though the big 3 have all handled these fakes recently and caught them.
