OT - Art Auction Article

Interesting read. I can't help but think that the art market is what the card market would be like if there were no becketts, scd's, vcp's or smr's. if there was literally only one of every card with sometimes decades going by between sales it would be an entirely different animal. i suppose we get a taste of that with the wagners.....

There are four versions of The Scream.

Maybe not as many recent sales, but that is why people hire experts. Degrees can be given for Art History. More expensive and complex the industry may be, but the differences are not really far apart.

sorry... but this is why people "hire" experts...not higher!

Jake never claimed he was an expert

Actually, I suspect that for very well healed buyers buying very expensive items, they do have advisors and helpers. Appraisal, authenticity, bidding, etc. Similar likely happens in the sports memorabilia hobby, with Fortune 500 executives and the busy wealthy getting assistance when purchasing game used Mickey Mantle bats or T206 Wagners.
