Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but here goes :

Here is the auction:

Here is the note I sent the seller:

Hi

This program is not from the opening series in 1951.

The reason I am sure is due to Les Moss being in the Boston lineup as #14. Moss was with the St Louis Browns for the beginning of the season, he joined the Red Sox via trade on May 17.

The first series programs have Matt Batts listed as #14, he went to the Browns on May 17 in the same trade.

Merry Christmas,
Doug

Always be careful of buying programs that are supposed to be from a big event.

Here is a scan of an actual debut program, this one scored.

Merry, Happy, etc,
Doug

Good work correcting the seller, and thanks for letting us know.

Nice catch and information....

The seller ended the auction.

Bravo.

He got caught, He ended the auction. Bravo? Maybe not.
This seller seems IMO to exaggerate his auctions. I had noticed one a few days ago before this post, regarding a press pass for 1946 NY Giants and the claim that it was from Mel Ott's last home run.
He posts press passes, which are good for one season and states that they are from a historic game. Yes, they were good for that historic game. But they were also good for many, many more games from that season. For all we know the sports writer might not have even been at that historic game.
Very subtle, but very telling IMO.
This seller also has many other programs from big events.

I see this stuff all the time. Sellers either flat out lie or just describe the piece as they wish it is. I sent B&E a message many months ago that this is a January 1932 issue of Baseball Magazine and obviously has nothing to do with the 1934 tour.

Mickey Mantle 1st NYC gm program ebay - WRONG DATE

Here's another one -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1951-Los-Ang.../332119843134?

Advertised as being from April 15, 1951, but Johnny Sain being listed dates the program to no earlier than August 29, 1951.

Not to mention that Mantle is listed as #7.

I sent the seller a polite note, we'll see what happens next.

Doug

Less than 10 minutes after I sent the seller a note (and after 9 pm at their location) they replied:

"Much appreciate the information, we would not want to mislead anyone with incorrect information, we will change it shortly.
Thanks,
GDC Team"

Those press passes definitely deserve an :eyeroll:

Good that they took it down but you would think that a seller with over 2000 feedback would know a little about baseball.

Here is his ebay ad title:
"1951 Los Angeles Dodgers New York Yankees MICKEY MANTLE 1st MLB Baseball Program"
