1993 Pinnacle Joe Dimaggio autograph cards

Is there an issue with the legitimacy of these? They seem to me to be pretty inexpensive for what they are.

According to Beckett, DiMaggio signed a total of 9,000 cards for the issue-- they were randomly inserted into the boxed sets--, which may explain what you say is the low price.

Sometimes you can find a really great deal on these.

I own two and got them both for under $100.00.

One is on Ebay now for $147.99.

Are they reliably his signature? I vaguely recall reading something but can't find it.

I haven't heard anyone voice an issue with these. There have been issues or concerns with other certified autograph cards, including some 1994 UD Mickey Mantle signatures, and some certified Ted Williams items-- so maybe that's what's stuck in the back of your head.

In general, big brand certified autographed insert cards are reliable. There are occasional cases with specific cards and specific players-- for example, it is well known that Jack Kemp used an autopen on1991 Pro Line cards, and you have to be careful with the Mantles on Griffey/Mantle dual-signed but not single-signed 1994 UD inserts--, but they are well known in the hobby.

If you know Joe DiMaggio's autograph, you'll be able to differentiate between an authentic one and a forged item.

The sigs that came out of those boxes are authentic.

+1 I only have a few autos so I did ot know about UD or the Pro Line problems.

I sold a autographed Pro Line card a year or so ago, I hope it was real.

The 1994 UD Griffey/Mantle cards came authentically singly signed (by either) or signed by both. Some forged Mantle's signature to the authentic Griffey signed cards. So it's only the dual signed cards where you have to double check the Mantle. As all the cards were authentically signed by at least one, all the single signed cards (Griffey or Mante) are authentic.

In general, for novice autograph collectors, certified autographed insert cards are a very safe area to collect. Ninety nine point whatever percent are authentic, the card manufacturers had the signers under contract to sign, and, as I said, the rare problems are well known.

Pro Line cards are safe. The problem was just with Kemp's. And, of course, Kemp was a politician and politicians like their autopens.

You could also purchase a set that includes 1 signed card per set. One of the big online card dealers had a bulk amount of unopened sets with the auto a few ago for around $150 a set.
