Kansas City Advice

Going to Kansas City for business next week, and off and on over the next three months. Hoping to make a World Series game next week (monitoring stubhub!). Staying at the Country Club Plaza

Couple of questions.

1. Is there public transportation to the ballpark? Is it good or am I better to drive?

2 Any local card shops?

3 Any recs on W/S tickets, besides stubhub?

thanks in advance, and go Royals!

Bob

I don't have answers to those questions, but you should check out the Negro League HOF too if you have the time:

Good luck getting tickets, I hope you have a blast.

+1 it is really cool. They make it a point to call it the Negro League Baseball Museum and not the Negro League HOF at the Museum.

Cascone's Grill across from the downtown farmers market is a great place for breakfast/lunch. http://www.casconesgrill.com/

The Kansas City Museum and the Zoo are also pretty nice.

I always drove KC is not really that big, like all other stadiums find the major back roads and stay off 70 Interstate when leaving the stadium.

Hi Bob,

Check out seatgeek.com for tickets. It's an aggregator, similar to Kayak, except for tickets. It includes StubHub, so you won't miss those. It has a nice visual for pointing out relative values throughout the stadium. You can also choose "electronic only" if you don't want to deal with listings that include paper tickets.

I hope you get to catch a game.

Good luck,
Steve

To answer your questions:

I recommend driving to the stadium. I'm not crazy for the public transportation in KC, and driving is not an issue here. It's very easy to get around town.

As for a baseball card shop, I suggest The Baseball Card Store at 9637 W 87th Street in Overland Park. 913-962-1924. Closed on Sunday and Monday, open at 12:30pm til 6pm. Call to verify hours though. They deal in 50's to current issues of cards. I'm sure you will find something there to your liking.

Be sure to stop by Rally House / Kansas Sampler for some Royals gear.

You need to have some BBQ while in town. Check out Kansas City Joe's, formerly known as Oklahoma Joe's.

KC also has some great Italian, and I recommend Garozzo's. Go to the one at 4th and Harrison. It's the original location and has a nice vibe. Make sure you are hungry as they serve large portions.

I can't help you with tickets. :(

The best sports radio station in the country is here in KC, 810am. Locally owned and they have a great history.

As mentioned, stop by the Negro Leagues Museum. You will not be disappointed.

I am happy to have arranged Chamber of Commerce weather for your stay in KC!!!!!!!

Leawood is lucky to abut Overland Park, the King of the Kansas City area:)

Bob

MUst see Negro League museum. The original Arhtur Bryant's BBQ is right up the street from that. Oklahoma Joe's on Mission road is a must for at least 1 BBQ meal (best BBQ in KC). Power and Light district is nice. We just opened a small shop about 1 hour north of KC if you get time to kill. My number is 816-294-9847. Tickets are going around $600-1200 each for the WS right now. I could have purchased some earlier in the week but my Cards are out so I prefer HD instead. RUmor has it parking for tailgating is $350 per car for the series. I do not know if this is true or not.
