Single Owner Collection Signed M101-2's & M114's Up For Auction

18 Attachment(s)
Single owner collection of signed 1909-1913 M101-2 Sporting News Supplements, M113 & M114 Baseball Magazine Premiums and George Burke photographs up for auction. Highlights of this collection include signed photos by Babe Ruth, Grover Alexander, Walter Johnson, Mordecai Brown, John Evers, Cy Young, Joe Tinker, Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, John Coombs, Roger Bresnahan, Ed Walsh, Eddie Collins, Nap Lajoie, Rogers Hornsby, Paul Waner, Fred C. Clarke, Tris Speaker, Jim Archer, Al Simmons, Chief Bender, Chief Meyers, Sam Crawford, Mickey Cochrane, Zach Wheat, Arky Vaughan, Frank "Home Run" Baker, Hal Chase, Harry Lord, Harry Davis just to name a few.
Dr. Clarence G. "Doc" Steen, began collecting baseball autographs in 1910 and he collected his entire life passing away in 1965. However, the majority of his collection was obtained between 1910 and the late 1940's. "Doc" Steen sent players photos to sign, most in the form of these premiums, storing them carefully and out of the light. After his passing these signed photos were placed in a safety deposit box where they remained for decades. As a result of this careful handling and storage the majority of his collection are signatures that rate 8-10 on a scale of 1-10. Bidding is now open for this live auction with internet bidding, May 16th, 2015 at 10am.

I am by no means an autograph expert. But that Shoeless Joe autograph is by Katie, no?

Group Allen & Ginter N28's Added to May 16th Auction

4 Attachment(s)
A nice group of 1888 Allen & Ginter N28's have been added to the May 16th auction. These cards were discovered in a scrapbook album dated 1889-89 and have been professionally removed from the album by a paper restorer. Because these cards were placed into the scrapbook album shortly after issue the fronts are stunningly bright with truly sharp corners. However, there are glue stains on verso thus the lower overall grades. https://content.liveauctioneers.com/...rian-cap-anson

Love the eye candy!

Isn't this the group of autos that was supposedly obtained via mail from writing to each individual player? As I mentioned previously, very strange how this was done with no apparent fold creases going through any of the supplements, which are oversize to begin with.

I do suppose that they could have been mailed in larger envelopes such as a manila envelope, etc. Regardless, these signatures speak for themselves and are guaranteed authentic, many coming with PSA/DNA full LOA.

That's good, I also think they look good, in general. I think it's the story behind the collection that might be superfluous. In my opinion, the items were either obtained in person at chance meetings such as ballpark, restaurants or the collection was bought and assembled piece by piece by an original owner.

Also, the main board is not really the place to promote an auction house consignment. The story behind the find is interesting but I think there was already an appropriately posted thread about that on the main board. This is strictly a plug for the auction house consignment, even more so with the inclusion of the Allen & Ginter cards to be included in the same auction.

Clarification....

Phil,

Just wanted to clarify on something you mentioned. The collection of M114s that there was discussion on about mailing and folds etc... is NOT this group. That group you mentioned were sold privately on the BST boards about a month ago and they were personalized to a different person.

That thread is here for reference: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...highlight=m114

What I find amazing is that there were 2 M114 signed original collections to surface this year. Crazy stuff!

Peace, Mike

Generally speaking you are correct Phil, however, this is a paid advertisement thread and this is the appropriate place for it. Grant (hi Grant) has asked me about posting every step of the way. thanks

My mistake then, Mike. I thought it was the same group that we were talking about. That's also why I had the issue with the initial discussion thread and then the current thread, whose purpose was clearly to promote the items in an auction. Makes sense now, my apologizes to everyone.
