e120 American Caramel
 

Hi all,

My interest in e120 American Caramel as my 20's hof subset is growing. In searching available cards on eBay, I found a few listed as e120 blank back. I used net 54 search and found out that these are probably w573 strip cards (thanks Rhett).

Would anyone like to share any other info or sources of info on this set? I've reviewed the SCD listing and the Lipsett Encyclopedia.

Are there any especially tough cards?, are fakes a problem ?
Any other info, etc.....

If they are on eBay they are probably E120's with blank backs. I saw a while back Mike Wheat had a lot of them listed just like the ones below...

W573's are B&W, while the E120s will have a blueish tint for NL and a brown/yellow tint for AL

Normally E120's with blank backs are very scarce, but not on eBay right now.

One card that usually gets a good number of bids is the card of Austin McHenry, who died about a year after the set was produced. The last card I saw of him from the E120 set went for over $100.00.

Nice card, Brian. And McHenry's story is certainly interesting. Makes you wonder what if....

'relatives'. nothing like candy,clothes,and bread to get you through an oil/gas
crisis.

Frank KW, I certainly see the difference now in blank back e120's and W573's.

Funny the blank backs aren't noted in the SCD, oldcardboard.com, or Lipsett's encyclopedia (unless I missed it).

I even looked at your website yesterday before I posted and I don't *remember* seeing the line about blank backs. I just looked again and see that it does in fact refer to blank backs being very scarce.

Fortunately for me and the kid's college fund, part of what draws me to the set are the team rosters on the back.

We don't generally mention blank-backs in the listings of the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards because virtually any set that was originally printed WITH backs has misprinted examples extant with blank backs. Usually occurs when two sheets with their fronts already printed are run through the press together for the back printing.
