More Tuesday Trivia: This is WAR
Of the fifty greatest individual seasons since 1876 according to baseball reference WAR, five of them were accomplished by players who did not throw a pitch in that season. Name the players and the seasons.
There are four players on the list because one of them is on there for two different seasons. |

I will also guess Barry Bonds the year he had 73 home runs. And how about Gehrig in 1927 too?

1922 is not among Ruth's seasons in the top 50.
Bonds is correct! His 2001 season, in which he hit 73 HRs, is tied for 45th on the single-season WAR leaderboard. |
1927 is indeed one of Ruth's seasons that makes the cut, at #27 on the leaderboard.
Gehrig's 1927 is actually #51, so great guess but no. |

I don't know the year, but another infielder that comes to mind is Honus Wagner. |
You got it! Hornsby's 1924 season is tied for #38 on the leaderboard.
Wagner did not make the cut. Still looking for Ruth's other non-pitching season and one other name not yet mentioned... |

Now we're just missing one player and season. |

I think Yastrzemski is a better fielder than the other triple crown winners. |
