M116 and its popularity

Posted By: Dan Koteles
a better of a year ago , I sold a Sullivan in an 8 for 125.00. These prices arent evn close anymore. What do many think of the increase of popularity of the cards? What do you like like about them?

Though I rarely collect any of these , what I like is the seeing the actual look of the players we collect.

Posted By: Andrew S.
I saw a raw common go for over $200 on eBay in December that was only in excellent condition. They just keep going up in value. Some of the "commons" must be a lot rarer than the price guides indicate.

Posted By: peter ullman
i never used to like these cards...they seemed kinda washed out...drab! They have definitely grown on me in recent times...the muted colors...earthy tones...the monochromatic look...the images are quite beautiful. And the levels of scarcity also add to the allure.
pete in mn

Posted By: Bob
It seems to me that this set is much like the T207 in that collectors either love it or hate it, although perhaps with the M116 the feelings are not as shaply divided as with the 207s. The M116 set has a lot of room to grow as it was definitely underpriced for a long, long time.

Posted By: T206Collector
...for a time, but what I found difficult to negotiate were the discrepancies in condition. Given how M116 was packaged and distributed, you have a number of really fine condition ones that were preserved over time. So, you end up with a skewed distribution of conditions. In short, the fact that there are so many fine condition ones out there makes it a little less interesting to collect.

How'd it stay nice over the last 100 years?

Well, up until recently, it was well preserved in the flat envelope that it came in.

These are not the same stories that people tell about their tobacco and caramel cards.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Visit http://www.t206collector.com for my blog, interviews, articles, card galleries and more!

Posted By: Bobby Binder
McQuillan based on sales prices for the Cin VS. Phila is a huge difference. An SGC 10 Phil goes for about $10.00 and the CIN $567.00

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
You asked......"How much rarer is the Cincinnati variation on the McQuillan?"

I was able to acquire 280 cards (including the 24 Blue versions) in this set. And, I finally acquired this McQuillan.
In my opinion, it is a very tough card.

TED Z
