Lou Gehrig Glove Display real or fake?

Title says it all just looking for opinions before I sell it . I dont want to list it as something its not. I was on the fence about it when I bought it but the back looks like period paper to me but I have been wrong before. Thanks and all opinions are welcomed.

Fake.

perezfan 08-08-2019 06:19 PM

Concur... a very common fake, at that. :(

bobfreedman 08-08-2019 06:28 PM

Yep

I believe that an authentic one will not have a metal grommet as this one does

khkco4bls 08-08-2019 07:08 PM

Absolutely FAKE...

I'll call it a fantasy piece because I don't believe there are any genuine examples. Would love to see one if I'm wrong.

As a side note....I bought one of these as a teenager in an antique mall for about $15 assuming it was not very old. I moved away to college leaving most of my possessions back at my moms house. Fast forward 4 or 5 years.....I kind of forgot about it but my mom sure didn't. Christmas time rolls around and I'm peeling the wrapping off what turns out to to be a really nice custom frame with my Lou Gehrig matted and behind non glare glass:eek:
I couldn't ever bring myself to tell her she spent about $200 to frame a $15 piece:o
I just know she probably stood at the frame shop for hours picking out the perfect frame and matting. A piece I will always treasure because of what she did:).

Yep. She turned a $15 item into one that is priceless.

Wow that story hit home. My mom once went through the trouble of getting professionally framed the letter of me getting accepted into law school. A letter I never would cared if I had ever seen again. She gave it to me at Christmas one year to big fan fare. Obviously now it’s a treasured piece. God bless moms everywhere.

I was maybe 12 and Mickey Mantle was coming to a store in my area to support some type of recliner chair. It was during the day on a school day. I begged my mom to let me skip school and go in to meet the Mick. My mom was like, no way are you skipping school to meet some ball player. (Even though it was THE MICK). So I said, well why don’t you go. She was like ok. She went to a sporting goods store in the same mall as the Mick was going to be at and bought a ball and had Mick sign it. It is the ONE piece in my collection I will NEVER sell, no matter the price. I look at it today and smile as it reminds me how great my now long passed mother was.

Cheers to all the mothers who support and nurture their kids hobbies even though the moms may not “get it”

as someone said

fake and not believed to be a reproduction. I say not believed rather than wasn't because I still think that the elements of the graphic side of this exists in print somewhere else. Just conjecture on my part. One hasn't been shown up to know so likely I'm on the wrong side of this. Whatever it's just not real...…..
