I am hopeful, what do you guys think? T205 Speaker

I was thinking about that other thread of ungraded cards when this one popped up on the radar. I doubt I get it graded but will probably have a friend who is a grader take a look at it. I couldn't see a problem though have read about a few issues with this seller. He gives a good refund option so I felt I was fairly safe. What do you think it would grade?

Aquarian Sports Cards 01-04-2018 09:49 AM

I have had cards from this seller successfully grade fwiw.

PiratesWS1979 01-04-2018 09:59 AM

I vote a 4 unless the small green spot on the lower right is marker instead on toning.

CW 01-04-2018 10:06 AM

I was also thinking 4 with a longshot at a 4.5. Nice card and good luck.

MVSNYC 01-04-2018 10:09 AM

I voted 4, with the corner wear and chipping. Overall, pretty clean card. Good luck

trdcrdkid 01-04-2018 10:31 AM

I voted 3. By the way, Leon, I have your old T205 Speaker, and am taking good care of it.

Luke 01-04-2018 10:51 AM

I voted 3 as well. Don't see any reason to worry.

Thanks David. Something tells me a large part of my first collection is being safeguarded by our members.

On another note, it's interesting to see so many members think there is an issue with it and will grade an A.....we will see. btw, I voted 4 also.

Econteachert205 01-04-2018 10:58 AM

I vote 4

MVSNYC 01-04-2018 11:03 AM

Leon, you might remember, I acquired your T206 Cy Young Port, Hindu. He's safe & sound with me.

Good deal. What a great card that is.

+1

Eggoman 01-04-2018 01:29 PM

I'm thinking 3.5 and hoping that the reverse is toned and NOT discolored from a vintage pasting.

pherbener 01-04-2018 05:06 PM

I voted 3 but I'm thinking 3.5. Good luck!

Steve D 01-04-2018 06:17 PM

I voted 4, but the more I look at it, the more suspicious I get of the right edge.

I've bought a lot of stuff from Kruk over the years and found them to be completely honest, although they are not graders.

Thanks for the positive comment. As with almost any very large seller there will usually be some negative stuff online. My guess, from what I have seen in their feedback etc, is that they are a good seller.

As for the curve on the right side of the card I think it might be just a little bit of curve in the card. It's almost like it's a shadow showing. Thanks for the comments.

I'm going to buck the group (kind of) and say this has a slim chance at a 5, although solid 4. It really depends on the individual grader, but the gold borders seem to create a lot more inconsistency with grading corners and edges. So, most likely a 4 with an outside shot at a 4.5 or even a 5. Check T205 PSA 5s currently up for auction right now and you'll see what I mean.

ELAINE: Hey Leon did you buy that card knowing that green dot was on it because you could get it at a discount?

LEON: What? Did I what?

ELAINE: You did didn't you.

LEON: Elaine, I'm, I'm shocked. I'm shocked. Here I go out in the spirit of the season (Elaine looking like she's not buying a word of it) and spend all my savings to buy you a most beautiful Christmas baseball card, I have ever seen, to show my appreciation to you at Christmas, and this is the thanks that I get, at Christmas.

ELAINE: Well Jerry told me that you did.

LEON : You told her? How could you tell her? I told you not to say anything.

JERRY: I didn't tell her you stupid idiot. She tricked you.

LEON: Elaine you don't understand. I had 103 temperature when I bought that card. I was so dizzy I was seeing green dots everywhere. I thought everything in the store had a green dot on it. I couldn't distinguish one green dot from another. I couldn't afford anything. I have nothing. I haven't worked for a really long time. (Jerry is standing right behind Leon. Jerry takes out a hankerchief and starts fake-crying in it.) I mean look, I have no clothes, look at what I'm wearing. It's just a little grren dot.

bobbvc 01-05-2018 05:27 PM

I would have voted 2.5 if the option was available.

Maybe the back appears to have staining or scrapbook residue, which might make it a 3? I think the horrible contrast setting on the scan is making the back look much worse than it really is.

Maybe the chipping at the corners (standard for T205s with corner wear) is viewed by some here as paper loss, so they're knocking it down to 3 or less? Just guessing here.

If a card with no creases and corners like this is viewed as a 3 or below, then I think the hobby's grading scale has become too tough. To me, this is a VG-EX 4 all day long. Even the centering and registration are top notch.

barrysloate 01-05-2018 05:52 PM

I said 4. Now you just need for a grader to agree. That's the tough part.

xplainer 01-05-2018 05:54 PM

I really think a 3 or 4. This issue is known for fragile borders and corners.
I see no real problems with this card.
Just me, and I am not a grader though.

I hear you, Barry. Unfortunately what could barely be seen online is a tiny blue ink mark on the bottom edge, right front corner. My guess is it will be an AUT because of that and a return to the seller. If it were somewhere else it might just be an errant mark and only a slight downgrade, which I could live with. But as I told the seller in a message on ebay, that is the worst possible place to have a mark on a gold border. I am going to have another set of better eyes look at it for me but that is the expectation.

Joe Hunter 01-07-2018 01:01 PM

Leon: I would just return it to the seller. The mark is visually hard to pick up in the scan and should have been mentioned in the description.

Leon, I have your Puddinhead Jones Lummis Peanut Butter card. :) I included it in with a bunch of 1972 STP racing cards that I shipped off to PSA last month I knew the Lummis card would grade a "1MK," but I wanted to get it into a holder.

Leon 01-22-2018 07:49 PM

Kudos to Kruk Cards

I want to give kudos where kudos are deserved. How many times have you had to return something because of an obvious issue that was missed at first? Almost all of us. Then later you see the item listed for sale without any mention of the issue. It is one of my big pet peeves in the hobby. You explain something and why it is the way it is and it's like, ok thanks I will list it the oringal way again with no mention.
So the Speaker had an ink mark in the worst place possible and it was also deemed trimmed at the top left corner. Here is the listing for the card now.....Once again, very nice job on the description by this company on this one.

That sucks it was altered. Glad to see the dealer relisted with known issues.
