Old Timers Games

This is slightly off-topic, since it has nothing to do with cards, but I figure pre-war card collectors will appreciate these photos I came across in a Google search. It's great seeing Cy Young, Hooks Wiltse and Ed Walsh in 1950s uniforms — and in color ...

Someone recently posted a great video here of a Yankees' old timers day from the 1980s. I have great memories of going to a couple old timers games in Anaheim Stadium as a youngster, watching Joe Dimaggio, Bob Feller, Satchel Paige and others play. A few teams still have such games, but I'd like to see more of them ...

Great pics. Can anyone name the players in the pics?

I love pictures like this...is that Cy Young with the bat?

That is Cy Young with the bat, and again standing next to Dazzy Vance. I have an original photo from what must be the same game, showing Young and Vance walking together. Mine is black and white.

Nice

Those are some great pics, do they still do old timers games? Or is that a thing of the past now?

Looks like Carl Hubbell looking over Cy's shoulder in the right photo.

Are they high top spikes Cy Young is wearing?

No Old Timers Day discussion is complete without footage of Luke Appling taking Warren Spahn deep at 75 years old.

The Mets used to have a nice Old Timers game which featured many NY Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers in the 60,s and 70,s. In later years they had their own old timers. Unfortunately these games are not the draw they once were. Maybe todays young fans don't have the appreciation for baseball history like prior generations of fans.

The Old Timer games gave away some pretty nice gifts to the players. Here are a few Wheats. Yankee one is a camera.
