April Autograph Acquisitions aka New Pickup Thread

Sorry, couldn't resist the alliteration.

Rick Barry's bar mitzvah photo:

April 1 slight [very slight] joke; he only looks 13 in it.

An ALS, an LS and an inscribed album page, all signed by William McKinley, all are pre-Presidential.

7nohitter 04-01-2015 05:13 PM

Adam, that's not alliteration. Sorry, I know it's petty, but I just taught it to my class last week.

A minor addition to my vintage no-hit signed card collection:

Tigers double no-hit pitcher Virgil Trucks signed 1949 Bowman card which originated from the same collection as my Dick Fowler that I just acquired last week.

Love those vintage fountain pen signatures! ;)

Kris Bryant signed picture. Guy(Arthur) said he received it during spring training sending out fan mail. So hopefully Bryant actually signs his mail but it looks good to me.

Happy to get this one in!

Picked up my second Ray Brown autograph in an auction a few weeks ago. It is not the prettiest example of his signature and part of the "n" is cut off, but nevertheless the price was too good and with his scarcity, approximately 10-12 known examples of his signature, I could not pass it up. Plus there is some other writing in Spanish in his hand as well.

I recently came across several binders of signed photos and cards that I haven't seen in years. I got these in the mid 80' thru the mid 90's and for the most part forgot that they even existed. It is kind of like looking at new items to me, so I will be posting some of them occasionally.

Took this one in on trade for a couple of signed rookie cards. One of the famed Four Horsemen of Notre Dame, my alma mater.

Eddie Cantor's eyes look like he needed to see a doctor real soon.

Bought this ball for the vintage Max Carey autograph, but the more I look into it, the more I like it. I posted a thread asking for more info on Les Mann's team, if anyone has any.

Nice Harry Wright signed scorecard. I have one too. Does anyone know how many are out there?

A beautiful pick up on the Harry Wright scorecard.
Take it from me when you get into your numbers the new pick ups get fewer and farther between.

I know the 1883 scorebook that this was from had 24 full signature Wrights. I have heard that the others offered had about another 75-100 or so Wright signatures, but unsure what type of signature they were (H Wright, HW or full signature).

Got these over the course of the last month or so... The last one is pretty interesting as it is signed on the reverse of a 1952 mayaguez vs santurce ticket stub... 1952 was Clemente's first season with the crabbers...
The seller at one time had three stubs from the same game, one signed by Jackie Robinson, and the other signed by Willard brown... Looks like this one will turn out to be a pretty fun research project.

But here are my most recent acquisitions, one my favorites in my entire collection now is this Yaz. It is a rookie/early signature and then signed again with his modern signature. Hardly see any signed rookies with an early signature on it, and I've never seen one with both.

It is noted in the LOA for Spence that it was indeed signed in two different time periods.

Any idea what the stamp on the back of the Marquard is from?

packs 04-08-2015 03:10 PM

The original collector stamped his name.

That's what I had figured from other previous T206's with stamps, but hopefully I can find the specific owner and tie it to a collection!

Oh wow, I thought early rookie era, not possibly an actual 1960-61 autograph.

Maybe Jim or some of the others can chime in on the auto and tramp stamp. May have to post the tramp strap on the main forum to see if anyone has something similar.

Tom Tresh Signed 1963 Topps Rookie Card

1 Attachment(s)
I finally got the below Tom Tresh autograph card to complete my over 200 Tommy Tresh autographs.

It's on his 1963 Topps rookie card. I've seen a few others over the years, but never liked any of them.

This is the one I wanted and now own.

Thank you, Steve....

I've been looking for years.

I specifically wanted one penned in ballpoint and on a 1963 Topps rookie card in very good condition.

Thanks, Brent, it is.

Real autograph collectors don't "just settle" for a particular autograph.

I now have his autograph on everything from a baseball to a bat, to a newspaper clipping to a NY Yankees yearbook, etc.

Thank you very much guys.

HOF Auto Rookies 04-10-2015 07:45 PM

I'm doing the same sort of with Mauer, he's my Tress I guess you can say. Two cards away from every possible 2002 and over 300 autos total. Obviously not as scarce or hard to find with a signed clipping etc.

But awesome non the less!

Congrats on the nice pick up. It is always a great feeling to find something that you have wanted for a long time and knowingly passed up the same item to wait and get the one you really want.

HOF Auto Rookies 04-10-2015 07:54 PM

Chris,

If you filled the void with a Tresh signed rookie you didn't prefer, would you have still searched for your Tresh ink signed?

Honestly, I would never make a purchase "just to fill the void."

I waited years for the one I bought.

I've seen a few of his sigs on his 1963 Topps card, but I never considered buying any of them.

7nohitter 04-11-2015 05:57 PM
