Video of the Baltimore National

Most all on Net54 have already received the August issued (Issue #76) of the Old Cardboard eNewsletter that was distributed yesterday afternoon. If not, you may be interested in viewing the eNews and the video that it contains, which highlights last weeks National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore.

The video includes interviews with more than 70 vintage card and memorabilia collectors. Many of these are also members on this forum.

The video (which is recorded in High Definition and can be viewed in full screen mode on your monitor) can be accessed on the Vimeo website at
http://vimeo.com/13994568.

The eNewsletter, which identifies all 70 attendees in the video, can be accessed at http://www.oldcardboard.com/eNews/20...76/eNews76.htm.

To obtain a free subscription for the monthly eNewsletter, you can sign up at http://www.oldcardboard.com/e-newsletter.asp.

We hope that you enjoy the video of the 2010 National.

terjung 08-12-2010 12:45 PM

Very pleasantly surprised at how well the video was put together. Nice job, guys!

Leon 08-12-2010 12:49 PM

great video

That was a great video Lyman and Brett. Except for me looking like a spastic everyone looked like I remembered them.

And as a shameless plug for Brett. Brett does a great job doing videos at weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, divorces :), etc......He does it as a side business and as ya'll can tell it's very professionally done. GO OLDCARDBOARD!!!!!

tbob 08-12-2010 01:00 PM

Lyman, thanks for sharing the video, it was very entertaining. For those of us unable to make the show this year, I can only say, see you in Chicago in '11 :)

paulcarek 08-12-2010 01:04 PM

This is terrific. Thank you, guys.

Thank you so much for that. It was really fun to watch. Unfortunately, my boss walked in while I was watching it. I minimized it, but forgot that I was also streaming the PGA Championship . So I got busted with both. Anyway, thanks again for the video.

Also wanted to say that I am a new subscriber to the magazine this year and I love it! I highly recommend it to everyone in the hobby.

Video of National

Hi Guys. Brett and I just want to say thanks for all of the positive feedback on the video. It is gratifying to know that it is being enjoyed by those who could not make the show. Hope to see everyone next year in Chicago.

Great video Lyman...thanks a lot!

btw I emailed you at some point last week when the National was going on so it may be buried in your inbox.

HRBAKER 08-12-2010 05:36 PM

Lyman and Brett,

Well done. I can almost taste the overpriced food and just watching it made my feet hurt again!

Thanks for sharing.

Jeff

Thank you for including me. It was very well done. Haven't had this much fun at a National in years.

Great job on the video! Really enjoyed it.

Buythatcard 08-13-2010 06:52 AM

Excellent video. I recognized many faces there. I was hoping to see myself in the background so that I had proof to show my wife on my whereabouts that weekend.

Easily solved. PSA or SGC can certify your presence at Nationals each year for the rest of your life. After that...well, I'm sure others will gladly do the same if the money's right.

maybe Brett can CGI you in there.

barrysloate 08-13-2010 12:35 PM

Jeff- you're in the video, and I learned that I've been pronouncing your name wrong. I thought it was a short "i", like "prisoner." But it's Prize-ner. Live and learn.

Bicem 08-13-2010 12:47 PM

No problem Barry, you are not alone.

We may need an exemplar picture of you in profile to compare the ears though.:)

Hey Jeff
We must have met at least 10 times and I never knew it was a long "I" either. You should have said something but I guess it's no big deal. I just learned someone elses name I had wrong yesterday too. I had introduced him to a half a dozen people, at the National, and clearly had his last name completely wrong. I blame it on old age!!

Bicem 08-13-2010 01:56 PM

you're dead to me Leon.

actually people have been saying priz-ner instead of prize-ner since I was about 1 so kinda used to it.

barrysloate 08-13-2010 02:17 PM

Jeff- maybe they're pronouncing it correctly and you're not.:)

ethicsprof 08-13-2010 02:20 PM

prizner

i made sure i learned how to pronounce it after i learned that you were
the fan craze king some years back.
after seeing the video, i was shocked that you were a young fellow.
but even barry sloate is younger than i am.

a great video with some great accents from Ted Z., Leon L., JimB, Bruce B. et al.

best,
barry

barrysloate 08-13-2010 02:22 PM

Barry- I turned 58 last week. Have I caught up to you yet?:)

ethicsprof 08-13-2010 02:26 PM

for one more month :(

best,

barrysloate 08-13-2010 02:30 PM

Mark my words...one day I will catch up and even pass you!:)

ethicsprof 08-13-2010 02:44 PM

only if you outlive me!!
and i'm guessing the odds are pretty good since you finally quit smoking those 'extra strong' 'lung killing'
piedmont, sovereign, cycle, uzit, broadleaf, sweet cap cigarettes you hoarded :)
all the best, ole friend

barrysloate 08-13-2010 02:51 PM

Great video

Thanks for providing the great video for those of us who couldn't attend. My only complaint is that it wasn't an hour or two longer.

Marckus99 08-13-2010 06:34 PM

Great video, thanks for the effort!

Video...

Awesome job on the video, it's nice to put a face to the name in our little community.

Jeff

I vote the National in San Diego!

Joe_G. 08-13-2010 07:47 PM

Watched it and loved it, of course I'd expect nothing less from Brett & Lyman. Among many things, I liked Bill Cornell's crack on collecting "Ramlys, T222s, and everything Jay Miller wants" :). I only hope you are referring to N288s and the like. If it were OJs, I suspect you now call a cardboard box home :) All the best to all involved in making the video.

WhenItWasAHobby 08-14-2010 03:07 PM

Great job on the video!

Thanks so much for putting together a top-notch production of the National! Hopefully this will turn into an annual tradition.

bcornell 08-14-2010 10:45 PM

I'm issuing An Official Network54 Apology™ for my thoughtless crack about Jay... I didn't realize the camera was rolling. Actually, I caught him out of the corner of my eye when Brett started and couldn't resist. All your OJ's are safe, boys.

I still can't get over the guy with the paint-peeling Maryland accent at about the 20 minute mark (note: that's Dan Mckee, who started in the hobby around 1889). And they make fun of the way we talk in MA?

Sorry for dragging up an old post, but I really enjoyed the video & thought some of the newer members might too.

I want more :-)

trdcrdkid 11-05-2016 11:38 PM

Nice video. Interesting to see Doug Allen and John Rogers in there, pre-prison, with Rogers showing off the Conlon collection photos before he sold off a bunch of them.

Rich Klein 11-06-2016 04:03 AM

it's personally sad to see people such as Ace Marchant, Bill McAvoy and Jim B who are no longer with us. I'm glad their memories are saved

JeremyW 11-07-2016 04:05 PM

I agree with you, Rich. That's why I thought this video should live on.

Mark70Z 11-08-2016 05:45 AM

Baltimore National

The video was really well done; enjoyed viewing (again?). I don't recall watching it when it was put out years ago, likely did, but to me this was a great National and thanks for reviving...

basesareempty 11-08-2016 10:30 AM

Baltimore was a great venue. Sad that they will never consider it again for a National.

uniship 11-08-2016 11:49 AM
