Larry Hoffman credit NYY photos

8 Attachment(s)
I have several photos that appear to be snapshots printed on Kodak Velox, likely in the 1940s?? Some credited to Larry Hoffman. Two are Dannny Hoffman photos - maybe all originally owned by Danny Hoffman and reprinted by his son?? No idea really. Anybody seen these or similar before?

Those are photos of 1904 New York Highlanders.

1906--only Kleinow and Hughes were on the 1904 team; all of them played for the 1906 team.

Here’s an original I have of Joe Doyle.

I knew they were all on the 1906 team, that is why I thought they might have come from Danny Hoffman's memorabilia. He died young, but I don't know if he had a son Larry that might have kept or reproduced these photos

Does the Joe Doyle have a Larry Hoffman credit on the back?

Well after examining mine it has the Velox stamp on the back and nothing else. I’m pretty disappointed in finding this as I’ve always thought my photo was of the period. There was scrapbook removal on the back so it was difficult to find but it is there.

These photos were taken in Atlanta in 1909 by, I believe, Hoffman's brother.

At one time, Al Price, a veteran Atlanta collector owned the paper negatives. Price was a very nice guy and sent the negatives to a number of collectors so they could make copies. He only charged a few dollars and trusted people with his negatives.

I have 19 Cubs images, 15 Highlanders and shot of Russell Ford in an Atlanta uniform.

They turn up from time-to-time in various forms on eBay. In his pictorial history of the Cubs, Mark Stang printed Hoffman images of Jack Pfiester in a batting pose with his foot in a pail and of Pat Moran.

This is the first time I have seen them with Hoffman name printed on the reverse.

I'm wrong about the year. The Ford photo would have been taken in 1908.

The Highlanders in 1904 as Tom Hughes is one of the subjects. That was his only year in New York.

The Cubs are probably 1908 or 1909. I'd have to check.

Salida Tom Hughes played for the Highlanders in 1906.

Edited to add: I think it is likely that these photos were taken during spring training in 1907. Players of that era typically wore their uniforms from the previous season during the spring; they first wore their new uniforms on Opening Day. Each of the players in the above photos also played for New York in 1907. Hughes had pitched for the Highlanders in September 1906 and then again in September 1907; according to Sporting Life, he was also with them during their pre-season spring trip to Atlanta in 1907. The other players started the season with New York.

You're right, thank you. 1907, of course. I jumped to conclusions and thought of Long Tom Hughes. The images are: Griffith, Brockett, Hughes, Hoffman, Laporte, Moriarity (2), Keeler, Ira Thomas, Joe Doyle, Conroy, Walter Clarkson, Deacon McGuire, Kleinow and Jimmy Williams. It's almost impossible to find original photos of some of these guys.

The Cubbies were taken at a later date, l909 or 1910, as Jimmy Archer is part of that group (he was with Detroit in 1907).

I believe the Cubs set is likely 1909.... I have the Jack Pfiester & Del Howard snapshot photos. Howard was on the Cubs from 1907-1909.
