Authentic Pathe Freres Ruth on ebay?
4 Attachment(s)
An ebay auction for a Pathe Frere Babe Ruth recently ended on ebay here: Link
Anybody know if this card was authentic? I assumed it was not authentic for a few reasons, but I could be wrong. First, the seller, obviously, had very low feedback. Secondly, the stock of the card seemed to be cardboard while I believe it should be more like a photograph? I also messaged the seller and asked for dimensions of the card, but never received a reply. Finally, the same seller also sold an 1888-89 Cap Anson Spalding World Tour cabinet here: Link. This card went for nearly 11K in a Heritage Auction here: Link. However, besides the reverse not being correct, when I examined the Heritage card with the ebay one, every defect on the Heritage card seemed to be on the ebay one, so it seemed like the ebay one just used a scan of the Heritage card. Since this card seemed to be a fake, I assume the Ruth card was also counterfeit. |
looked familiar
I thought that thing looked familiar....that was my card pre-upgrade a few years ago. Those bastages..It's a scan of my old card...(fake)...fyi, these are not on photo stock but are on cardboard stock. Also, they come with 2 different backs I have seen, as can be seen here...check out the very bottom of the stats on back for the differences...

Thanks, Leon. Never knew there were two variations of the Pathe Freres or the cardstock.
