great football yesterday

the no class ravens lost; all is well in the world this morning. now, to make it a perect weekend, the big mouthed, DWI'ing jets will lose also. time to get fitted for that orange jump suit braylon!

carrigansghost 01-16-2011 08:06 AM

And Roethisberger is a choirboy?

Rawn

pgellis 01-16-2011 08:29 AM

2 for 2 yesterday, especially fired up for my Packers!!!!!!!!:D

carrigansghost 01-16-2011 08:34 AM

Good luck with today's picks, Phil.

Rawn

jim 01-16-2011 09:09 AM

no choirboy

no, Ben is certainly not and i was happy to see him pay for his actions. but Ray Lewis was complicit in two people being murdered. yeah, he paid for his actions too. but Braylon is being allowed to dodge judgment so he can play. and DWI kills far too many innocent people every year.

carrigansghost 01-16-2011 11:01 AM

Nice Jim, go join MADD and leave football alone or just try to stay on topic. Edited to add that I see you have no picks in for the FUN game here, so exactly why do you think it is your mandate to voice your opinion? I see a few nice photos from our members that have temperence connections, go buy a few and post them. I do have an OUI as they are called here in Maine. The former idiot that owned the Rangers and was elected to some political office as I recall had one here also. ADD is a made up excuse for what we used to call being an A**hole, try to stay on topic.

Thanks

Rawn

Thought the Ravens would get them yesterday. Looking good at halftime, but after Rice's fumble the game changed.

Jets v Pats is going to be a very interesting game. Hope it will be as fun as the Ravens/Steelers.

MooseWithFleas 01-16-2011 12:14 PM

Bears are straight annihilating the Seahawks right now.

barrysloate 01-16-2011 02:28 PM

Rob and I are 3 for 3, and he's got the Jets and I've got the Patriots. So one of us is going to sweep. I'd still be very happy with a Jets win, and lose the 2 points.

barrysloate 01-16-2011 05:45 PM

Congratulations to the Jets! That was a big time win, and they made it look easy.

Congrats on Robs picks this weekend, man you would've made a killing in Vegas. How stunned did the Pats look that fourth quarter, Brady seemed shell shocked the whole game, gotta give credit to the Jets for being so ready and focused. How killer is the Bears and Packers game gonna be !

barrysloate 01-17-2011 09:43 AM

Including both last year's pool and this year's, the Jets have played five games and I've picked them wrong five times! And now I'm jumping on their bandwagon. Does that mean their season will come to an end on Sunday? I certainly hope not. For next week:

Jets
Packers

ChiefBenderForever 01-17-2011 09:54 AM

Barry the Jets are definately due revenge against the Steelers ! How cool is it to have four old school teams fighting for the superbowl ! And one of the greatest all time rivals in the Bears and Packers, two teams I couldn't hate more but respect to the fullest.

Thanks Johnny! I know, I haven't seen Brady that rattled in a long time. The Jets certainly do have big mouths but they backed it up Sunday. Both games have the potential to be classics.

Barry, if the Jets lose I will get the Brucii Law Team after you! :)

barrysloate 01-17-2011 11:01 AM

Rob- if they lose I will take full responsibility.

I have to say right now that the Jets will win the Superbowl. After yesterday's game there is no doubt.

ChiefBenderForever 01-17-2011 11:08 AM

It will be interesting, remember not to long ago the Jets lost 45-3 against the Pats and the Pats destroyed Chicago and then Chicago beat the Jets and then the Jets destroyed the Pats so who knows what is next but will be fun to watch.

My bookie is not happy this morning.

barrysloate 01-24-2011 04:23 AM

The Jets made a remarkable comeback, but 24-0 is way too deep of a hole. Their defense deserted them in the first half.

I'm now 0 for 6 picking the Jets.:(

I know this is just for fun but the guys with a shot at winning this should include a "Total Points" for the Super Bowl to break any ties.

Thanks for doing this fun pick em.

I am going with the Steelers in the big game.
Hopefully, it will be one of those epic games!

barrysloate 01-25-2011 07:52 AM

The only realistic tie that could occur would be between Rob and Phil, and if they choose different teams then no tie is possible. Another remote possibility is if Tim picks the correct team, and everyone ahead of him is incorrect. Then we would have a three way tie.

I can still win the tournament if Phil, Rob, and Rawn all pick the same team. Then if I pick the other team, and my team wins, I win the tournament. If the three players ahead of me choose some combination of both teams, I am eliminated before the game starts.

Robextend 01-25-2011 07:58 AM

I am going to go with the Packers (52 points total)

carrigansghost 01-25-2011 08:29 AM

Super Bowl title #7 for the Steelers!! Just because Pat fans hate Steeler fans.
I believe the favorite has won 32 out of the last 34 games. At 2.5 points, I like the Steelers. Final score for me.........17-13, so taking the under as well.

Not sure if I am reading your post correctly, but the Packers are the early 2.5point favorites right now.

carrigansghost 01-25-2011 08:47 AM

My bookie is not answering his phone, guess he knew I read it wrong. I'll stay with my picks regardless. I'm up a bit on the books, so even is still a good year.

barrysloate 01-25-2011 09:18 AM

Rob went Packers and Rawn went Steelers. I'm out!:(

carrigansghost 01-25-2011 09:27 AM

Side wager if you take the Steelers also Barry?

pgellis 01-25-2011 09:41 AM

I have to stick with my Packers! I have been a fan of Green Bay for 35 years!

So, I'll take the Packers with 51 Points Total.

GO PACK GO!

barrysloate 01-25-2011 09:47 AM

Rawn- I'm leaning towards the Packers. I'll wait a bit to decide for sure.

carrigansghost 01-25-2011 09:56 AM

Looks like I have a chance to back into the winner's slot again this year.

There is no shame in 2nd or 3rd place!

barrysloate 01-25-2011 11:58 AM

Well the whole thing is for fun, but I was trying to determine what combination of factors were needed for me to win. Since it is no longer possible, 2nd or 3rd place would do fine.:)

carrigansghost 01-25-2011 12:15 PM

It's not like we get to hold a Chase w/ trophy card for a year. I had forgotten last years tourney.

ChiefBenderForever 01-25-2011 01:05 PM

Not sure how the Pack can be favorites after the way they played last week but the Jets looked great against the Pats so I guess they think the Pack might show up for the superbowl but if they play like they did on sunday the Steelers will destroy them. I hate the Pack so much it hurts to see them in the big show but for the division I guess wouldn't be bad if they won. The only real question left for me is will the Lions climb out of the cellar and be replaced by the Vikings , my guess is yes as bad as this year was next year gonna be even worse. So just so Brett Farve has to feel the pain I hope the Pack wins and Brett Farve can go to hell.

pgellis 01-25-2011 02:07 PM

The Packers did not play that poorly last week. It certainly wasn't their best game this season (or post-season), but they never trailed in the game. As a matter of fact, the Packers have never trailed by more than 7 points at ANY TIME, IN ANY GAME this season. That's pretty amazing.

Also, I think you have to look at the fact that they went on the road to Philly in Week 1 of the playoffs and beat a QB that many thought had a chance to win the MVP this year.

Then, they went on the road again to the #1 seed Atlanta Falcons and beat them up in their own house where Matt Ryan had a 19-1 record at home prior to the game vs. the Packers.

Then, they went on the road again and beat the Bears and never trailed at all during the game.

On the other hand, the Steelers have actually had 2 sloppy playoff wins this year (both at home). Got way behind to Baltimore in game 1 and then had to hold off a near record 2nd half collapse at home vs. NYJ.

There, that's why the Packers are favorites.

P.S. I feel better now.
