What do you guys think of these tabs on the back of the cards

Posted By: James Gallo
So what do you make of the flaps on the back of this card.

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&item=290008637921&rd =1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1</a" target="_new" rel="nofollow">http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&item=290008637921&rd =1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1</a>

it reminds me of the type of thing used on stamps. Any thoughts on the removal of it?

Thanks

James Gallo

Looking for 1915 Cracker Jacks and 1909-11 American Caramel E90-1.

Posted By: Tim James
At first glance,it looks like a piece of mounting tissue. If you are lucky,it is reversable tissue that can be removed by applying heat with a non stick blotter in between the heat source and the tissue. If it a standard mounting tissue,an adhesive solvent like "Unseal" or "Bestine" will release it. If it is a rice paper hinge,it can be removed by steaming.Rice paper hinges are the best "archival" hinge that can be used.

Posted By: jackgoodman
I'm certain sandiegowill has the expertise to determine whether the paper could have been safely removed and thus obtain a better price for the card. For the buyer's sake, I hope I'm wrong because it's a good looking card.

Posted By: James Gallo
So I got my two cards today. The hinge came right off the back of the first card and I barely had to pull at it. It didn't stain at all but did leave a pull type mark that looks more like a light stress.

Of course the burns card is much tougher and although might come by just slowing pulling I think it will end up doing damage.

I want to avoid this, but I would like to use soaking as a last resort.

Will something like Bestine stain the card at all? Would I submerge the card or just put a bit on top.

How would you go about steaming it?

Any help would be great.

It seems with these cards I now have 4 T-206 and am slowing joining the ranks of the nuts collecting that set

Thanks

James Gallo

Looking for 1915 Cracker Jacks and 1909-11 American Caramel E90-1.
