There's also an investment analyst/portfolio manager named Ty Cobb who works for GMO in Boston. I've never met him, but I've met with some of his colleagues.

New thread about Trump's latest lawyer? Sweet. Let me just bookmark this so I can come back and read it tonight when there are about 200 more posts and Leon's locked it up.

I trust people can keep to a silly baseball related reference and nothing more. If I'm wrong sure Leon will shut it down quickly.

Being reported everywhere. Heard he is Ty the hitter's grandson.

Peter_Spaeth 07-14-2017 11:05 AM

He actually is a relative according to what I just read.

I can see the Fake News headline now... Trump hires racist, bully baseball player as new lawyer

Actually, according to the research that has been posted on this forum within the last couple months, that in and of itself is Fake News since Cobb wasn't as big of a racist as originally reported, and he was supposedly a great person.

Snapolit1 07-14-2017 11:19 AM

I'd be surprised if there isn't at least one news story saying something like "the President's new lawyer, a retired baseball player. . . "

I didn't think posting a pretty amazing iconic name of a lawyer was stirring the political pot.

Anything does if you let it.

To others - Don't get all political and keep the thread as intended and all is fine.

Fixed.

My wife's grandfather spent his career at H&B which made the Louisville Slugger bats. Both Ruth and Cobb were clients of his, and he and Cobb became good friends. Cobb was one of his pall bearers when he died. He liked Cobb enough he wanted to name my wife's dad Tyrus. But her grandmother did not like Cobb at all and vetoed it.

Peter_Spaeth 07-14-2017 03:25 PM

If his wife is named Ruth that would be something. Multiple reports say he is an actual relative, but that has not been spelled out as far as I can tell.

...Tyrus's hands-apart grip more than compensated for that.

The only question I have at the moment is how is this going to affect the green Cobb market. ;)

Ty Cobb (the baseball player) is his grandfather's distant cousin. The lawyer is an interesting guy (I mean that in a positive way) and seems like a fantastic attorney. Here is an interview I read several months ago:
