A modest proposal for a new section

I'm thinking we need a new section.

One where people can go to air their personal angst and silly disputes.

I'm thinking it could be - if the software allows this- a thing where people get crazy and could be temporarily banned from posting in any area except that one. Like for a day, or a few hours...

We could call it "facebook54"? No, that would probably get someone sued.

How about "the padded cell"? ............. Nope, it might be insensitive to crazy people.

I've got it!
"The timeout room"

How do we make this happen?

"The Airing of Grievances"

This section would be a Festivus miracle for the main page.

Yeah, but then we'd need a Feats of Strength room too.

I had a Festivus miracle last year: I made an entire car disappear. Some moron parked across our driveway entrance on Festivus so I had him towed.

sounding board

Awesome idea. I just "ignored" my first Net54 member today due to communication issues. I tried to educate him by providing some information about the selling price of some of the cards he was trying to "low-ball" me on, and instead he thought I was telling him to go to those members to buy from them instead. Um...no. I was letting him know that the selling price was higher than what he was asking, so if he desires those cards in the future, he should know to offer a higher amount and also to let him know that they had been sold.

Anyway, it's one of the first times I've been really ticked about a person here and would have loved to blow off some steam instead of telling him off in a later PM and later being called a "very unfriendly seller". I'm probably one of the nicest people to deal with on this board, so it ticks me off to no end to think someone dislikes me. Oh well. There's a first for everything.

He is now IGNORED (or, in facebook terms, UNFRIENDED)!

I'm on another board (non-sports cards) that has a section titled "Flame Forum". The subtitle says, "Settle your disputes in this section only."

And, quite honestly, it works well. Members can bitch and complain about anything or anyone without fear of being banned or whatever.

And, of course, if you're a member who doesn't want to be involved in any board "drama" you simply don't look in that section.

I've never posted in that particular section, but have to admit it's kind of interesting to be a fly-on-the-wall sometimes...:)...

Hijack thread would be a nice addition.

Can a thread about nothing be hijacked?

You could call it, "Take a Time Out"

- Are we seriously so out of control that we need to resort to creating a 'safe area' within a forum that is supposed to be the best possible type of representative of escapism?

.

Especially with all the recent tragedy in the world and the forum. However people need to get called out if it helps the community such as shady practices or people accused should be able to defend themself

I was more thinking sort of tongue in cheek about a less safe space where the excessively cranky could be sent.

I suppose Leon's right, it wouldn't be used much and would be a bunch of work for him, so I wasn't entirely serious.

If we had popcorn vendors I imagine they'd be it's biggest supporters.

How about, "What's your rock-bottom price?"

... within 3 minutes of listing. with no OMO.

One of my favorites. i like to respond, well it was x, but for you, since you were kind enough to ask, it is x + some arbitrary number. Yes, I do get a little snarky.

Actually, in the forum I mentioned above, there's absolutely no moderation whatsoever. It's an absolute free-for-all. The rest of the forum is very strictly monitored, but this section was set up just so people could vent. It gets absolutely brutal in there some time, but everyone knows the rules going in, so if you "complain" about something, well...you'll probably get "flamed" for being stupid enough to complain...:)...

I respond, "You'll be the first on my list ". My list is a mental note, not written literally.

Dear Derek
I was the one that ticked you off!
But please don't forget that you was the one that insulted and called me names and insulted uncalled for in pm!
I sent you a fair offer of $27 for $35 card.
You had 3 cards that I wanted and each time I showed interest the cards where sold right away. The last card in question after you marked sold in the morning later was changed to pending. You needed to teach me lesson not to offer below the asking price.
