AntiqueFootball.com website

Hey everyone,

I wanted to introduce myself to the board. My name is Chris Hornung. I've been a member for over a year but this is my first post. My area of interest is turn of the century football equipment, which I've been collecting for about 10 years. I know that this is primarily a baseball board, but that sometimes other sports are discussed. I just re-launched my website, www.antiquefootball.com which has several articles on the history of football equipment, collecting and preservation. If you have any interest, please check it out. I hope to update the site with new articles every couple of weeks. If you have any ideas for future articles, please let me know! Thanks!

Hey Chris. It's been a long while, hope all is well. Great to see the site updated - wow!! I've had a link to your site, on mine, for years and many have asked me when it would be completed ;). What an evolution - stunning, and a fantastic resource. Is that your collection in the showcase? One of the most magnificent displays/rooms I've ever seen. Do you ever leave it?.:). I look forward to finding more time to dig through your site more.

-Cheers
Joe

Fantastic site. Look forward to sitting down later and reading more of it. Great job!

antiquefootball 04-03-2015 11:52 AM

Thanks for the kind words Joe. Yes, the collection is mine. It took about 5 years to build (and pay for) the room. Two kids curbed my efforts for awhiile. I usually head down to the room in August and come back out at the end of college football season.

My plan is to do a free monthly newsletter with different research and collection stories. If you want to receive them, you can sign up using the link in the top right of the home screen. Take care,

Chris

Welcome to Net 54.
Vintage Football is my favorite category and you have an outstanding room! Can't imagine anything topping having a glass of scotch and watching monday night football in that room. Great site!

Absolutely stunning room!! I enjoyed the "Holy Grail" article and always enjoy learning about the provenance of memorabilia. Really great you have this story!

Thanks Carlton!

I actually sold the Schmelzer last year to afford the completion of the room. It was a hard choice, but what good is a collection if you can display it? It found a very good home with an advanced collector.

I'm sending you an email in a few minutes.

Chris. The black and gold uniform you have. Is that attributed to any specific team or player? I will be very envious if its an old Hawkeye player.

Herky - It's actually a dark navy 1924 University of Toledo friction jersey. No specific player. I bought it from a collector who had purchased it from a Legendary auction.

Very cool. Most guys on here are baseball guys so its cool to see a guy specializing in football. I got a loving cup I'm interested in your thoughts. See pics on the trophy. Guy sundt was an all big ten fullback in 1921. I believe it may be a team MVP but I have no idea where to start for research on such an item. Have never seen a comparable

Herky,

Awesome piece! From what I can find, Sundt was honorable mention All American in 1921 and was named the team MVP. I believe you have the trophy he was presented with by the team. There's a chance this may be an award he was given in addition to the MVP, but I can't find any evidence that another one was given. Sundt later became athletic director at UW. He died in 1955 and his obituary is available from the New York Times for $3.95. It may mention the award. Would be cool to have a print out of it anyway for future provenance.

Nice to see another football collector here.

If you spot any Chicago Bears game used, keep me in mind.

University of Chicago football pennant circa 1910-20's. Anything with the football player is a nice collectible. Hope this helps. Jason
