A very nice looking 6 imo. Very clean and sharp. Always buy the card and NOT the grade!

June purchases, July arrivals. (I got a little carried away last month! :D)
Finally got my Duke, and a few others I have been chasing for a while.

mickey7mantle7 07-04-2017 11:09 PM

Sorry for this huge scan guys, but without photobucket I've had to resort to another venue for posting and I'm still working out the kinks.

Picked this up on the Bay but am suspecting it is a reprint, despite seller assurances.

I had understood Dan Dee to be a thin flimsy card stock with wax/oil residues. Instead this is a sturdy stock similar to Twinkee cards when I was a kid.

Thanks, Ray!

I am currently at 265. I started out with 148 when I joined this site last January.
Currently just working on numbers 1 to 310 with no high number purchases, yet.

Jason, I hate to say this to you, but I think I can confirm your fears on your Irvin being a reprint. Dan-Dees were printed in sheets, and for the purposes of how they were inserted into the product containers, the cards were die-cut with many connecting tabs, similar to the 1961 Golden Press Hall-of-Fame cards. Genuine cards will have evidence of the many tabs all around it.

I would not guage them as thin and flimsy, but due to the manner in which they were available, many got creased. Part of that manner was it being a single free prize per package, which lent itself to all sorts of extra handling that resulted in creases. At least the paraffin coating protected the card from oil stains and sharp chip gouges---for a awhile!

Naturally, the reprints were not cut the same way, and appear as tab-free standard-cut cards. Furthermore, the reprints, were done in the current standard card size of 2 1/2 X 3 1/2". Genuine Dan-Dees are 2 1/2 X 3 3/4" (according to a Beckett guide of the early 80s), a slightly dissimilar size to the 1954 Topps.

Brian, I would trust nobody more than you on a vintage food issue. Thanks...am annoyed with the seller naturally. Will return it.

I'll have to go and check mine. I don't remember nor did I likely notice "perforations", but then again it seems they are much fewer than I would imagine from Brian's description. Looks like a couple pairs per side.

A simple add to my Branch Rickey collection. I dig the 60 Fleer set for some reason. Hella cheaper than a 1915 CJ haha.

I just picked up my first '74 Topps Deckle Edge card. I bought a lot of regular Topps packs as a kid in '74 but didn't know about the deckle edge set until many years later.

I am currently waiting for another batch to come in but they haven't arrived yet. I purchased them June 21st. Another batch that I won from the same seller on June 25th did arrive. I am getting a bit concerned.

Jason and Curt, I'm afraid my memory is not as good as it once was, as there appears on your gorgeous Feller to be only several connecting tabs. The Golden Press have a lot of tabs. Serves me right for not going downstairs and checking my few originals.;)

Incidentally, Curt, your Feller really is a beaute. There's a decent chance it came out of the find from 1975, the central story of my chapter on the Dan-Dees, in case you're interested. I was at that show! I cannot prove your Feller was from the find, but given the nature of that major occasion, I would say there's a good chance. Great story. Provenance is certainly important when it comes to scarce and rare collectibles such as ours.;)

All this to say---congratulations on owning one of Bob's finest cards.

New Arrivals :

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...CHAMPS_NEW.JPG

..I couldn't resist the corners on the Montana....

...it's been years since I've last seen a '52 Topps in a CHAMPS holder ; used to be rare even 'way back when non-PSA/SGC/BGS were more common....remember "Uncle Sam" and "FGS" ?..

.. NOTE: I'll be upgrading the Berra ---to my eye , that off-centering is the absolute worst kind of off-centering : tilted cut ( we used to say 'diamond cut') and the top border is so much smaller than the bottom border.....I'm not the only one here....

Thanks David.

If you mean have these cards been purchased until better ones come along, then no. These are around the graded/shape I usually try to collect at.
As you likely know, I was given the majority of the cards I own (148) so I try, (which is easier on the pocket book as well) to purchase cards that fit in with the condition/grade I received my cards. Usually in the 3-5 range with some being lower and some being higher but in and around that area if I can?
I have purchased a variety of cards with some being slabbed and with most being raw. If the prices are right, it really doesn't matter to me if my cards are slabbed or not, (although, considering the price to get cards graded, slabbed cards are probably a better deal)

These ones just arrived today. Another couple toughies, for me anyways, but glad, again, to say I finally have them for my collection.
