I believe they are. As I remember, Doug Allen of Mastro.net was the person who Lionel went through to grade and sell his cards in I believe 2007-08. He had a personal connection with Bill Mastro going back to the 1970's.

I bought one of these cards a while ago and last October, SGC confirmed that his entire collection went through them.

At this link you can watch (starting at 6:38) the video that Mastro made for the Lionel Carter collection when he auctioned it off in 2007. It features Carter, Doug Allen, Bill Mastro, and Dave Forman of SGC talking about how Carter decided to sell his collection and how MastroNet and SGC got involved.

Does the Lionel Carter Collection label / provenance bring any premium or is it just a nice historical designation?

Some Lionel Carter letters/articles

Back in 2011, I scored a '36 Goudey Greenberg pedigreed to come from the Lionel Carter collection. Here's a link:

If you scroll down the page, you'll find pictures of articles/letters written by Mr. Carter. I picked the letters from another collector, who corresponded with him, and I enjoy sharing them with other card enthusiasts. Hope you find them interesting...

I bought a few T206s with the idea of selling them for enough to keep one and make a profit. I did not realize a profit. It happens. But I did keep one.

I'd assume there would be a premium placed on any one of our hobby founders cards, though this may be a difficult task in determining what it would be.

Perhaps you can find out what Carter's cards have sold for, make a list of say 10-20 cards, then compare them with what the same cards without his provenance (condition and everything) and come up with a percentage that way. Anyway, something like that.

I own one, dont think it would get a premium but its neat to own.

I bought a couple at auction, but they didn't go for a premium over regular priced T-206's.

I have three Lionel Carter cards. I love the E98 Chase because it's in such bad shape. I was happy to see Lionel had cards like this in his collection like me. I don't remember paying a huge premium for them either. Actually, one was a gift from an OBC buddy so no premium there at all!

Mr. Carter had a great eye for nice cards.

I love finding low grade cards that look like that! Great card Leon.

I seem to remember reading that most of the low condition cards like your E98 Chase were not part of Lionel's main collection, but were duplicates for trading.

Just tell your mind that you got the Chase card as part of a trade for a card he really needed for his collection, and all should be fine in your head space!

+1 Love low grade cards.
Not a Carter card but he would have immensely liked it. :) Fair is my new favorite grade. The most it could have ever been bumped numerically is a half a point!!

Here's my Mr Carter Premium ~

I bought a T204 Ramly from his collection at one of the past Nationals just to have one of his cards in my collection. I can't find my scan presently but it's about the nicest graded 1 you will ever see.
