Signed Willie Mays Cards. $350 OBO, he was charginf $280++ at the last show.

I got this signed myself in the 90s, has been PSA authenticated and the card was graded a 7. The auto is a 9 at least.

$280???

Willie Mays was charging $280 for his autograph at a card show? Are you serious? What elementary school kid can fork out $280 for an autograph? Or convince his/her parents to do the same? If this is true then Willie just went way, way down in my book.

Back when I was getting auto's at card shows (mid-80s through the mid-90s), $35-50 for a Mantle or Ted Williams or Hank Aaron auto was on the very high end of auto prices. Most stars were in the $15-25 range. Even if you add inflation (which the players shouldn't) to those prices they should be around $60-80 today... not $280.

I'll make sure to steer my 4 year old son towards focusing on collecting cards (pre-WWII ones hopefully) rather than seeking autographs (or at least paying for them) if that is the trend. Geez...
