Eleanor Gehrig Letter

2 Attachment(s)
Picked this one up yesterday...

It originally came from the Ed Barrow Estate. The letter is on MRS. Lou Gehrig stationary. In the letter, Eleanor thanks Ed for sponsoring the Lou Gehrig memorial fund, and also mentions other participants such as Grantland Rice, Toots Shor, and max Case...

Its elegantly signed by Eleanor and checked off as read by Ed Barrow

"trainer" as in steroid supplier? ;)

That's a possibility. At least it wasn't Barry Bonds' trainer. Only kidding...

you can kid. Greg Anderson was definitely Barry's supplier. Contrary to what you may think, though, Anderson is a decent guy.

I picked up this original 1972 photo of Reggie and Rudi today in Albersheim's auction. I thought the photo's background was strikingly similar to this shot of Arky Vaughn which I don't own. I think it lends itself well to the timeless nature of the game.

Definitely one of my more esoteric purchases: 1940's folding table that has about 100 1957 Topps cards glued to the top and covered with a lucite-like material. Must have been constructed back in the '60's when baseball cards weren't worth much. Has Mantle and Williams and a few minor stars. I thought it was pretty cool.

Nate I love the Fox bat. You have quite a collection. I wish I had your focus. How many bats do you own?

At the moment I don't, unfortunately. Most of them are boxed up, but I'll get them out one of these days and have a few nice rooms for display.

Beautiful Fan... absolute best of the bunch, and rare! Tough to find, let alone with all the heads in tact...

I was watching that one very closely on ebay. My finger twitched about 7 times, but I somehow managed to refrain.

Glad this one made it to a good home... Congrats!
Mark

Great Fan! Here's the suit jacket and tie that Duke Snider wore when he announced games for the Montreal Expos in 1983 while working for the CBC. Notice the incorrect spelling of his last name!
