T206 Wags sells on the bay 20K...

Surprised nobody has this mentioned yet. It was a buy it now a few days ago. I understand this is a common practice nowadays but not usually for that much. Seller had sold it a week prior only to relist. I wonder why :D PT Barnum nailed it again ! Unable to provide a link but I'm sure someone can.

Probably sold for $5 and the seller probably bot it back himself under another name, purchaser only had 30 transactions.

Tons of these "selling as a reprint" cards on ebay now and when someone says that I assume they are trying to trick people. There was a forty dollar Cobb a couple days ago with that wording. Why not have it authenticated and graded and sell it for what it's worth? That is what a non crooked dealer would do.

That Cobb is scarier than the usual fake because the font on the name, city looks pretty good. Plenty of other telltale signs of trickery, but not the usual black ink, arial font.

I know it's been discussed but I don't remember how to see what a best offer card actually sold for. Does anyone know what this fake Wagner sold for?

Yeah I looked at that closely and it looks the right color and sizes. The black ink is what I always check for first.

According to the method I use, it sold for full price!

I also saw the font, inasmuch as I can view same from my phone, and agree with your assessment.

If the fraudsters have somehow managed to recreate the lithographic brown font on T206 cards, there may be a new wave of fakes about to hit the market. Sad news, to be sure.

Best regards

Eric

Don't get me started on that one again. As for the Wagner selling for 20k I hope that's not an actual paid transaction. The buyer could have bought a real Plank for that.

Sorry, I missed the time you led a discussion regarding the price that a fake T206 Honus Wagner card sold for on Net54. Please enlighten me, while also sharing with the group.

Please remember that this thread is about a fake T206 Wagner that apparently sold for $20,000 and try to stay on topic. By topic, I mean the topic of this particular thread.

Thanks,

Eric

Scary indeed :( For us small time amateurs (me not you) the font and brown ink is what we look for.

sandmountainslim 11-11-2015 06:50 PM

It seems there is another of the Fake Cobb/Cobb cards out there :(
