Wouldn't you like to know what was in Walt Corson's inventory sale?

Cardboard Junkie 11-07-2011 07:18 PM

Oh Man!

Yeah! And who bought it? Also cool reference to the "ladies" of the hobby. I also noticed a listing for bazooka tops comics I think , very early topps reference.. Aloha, Dave.

Interesting read as always. That inventory sale was just jumping of the page to my eyes.Im curious as well to the contents of the inventory.

I always look forward to these CCBs. Amazing how JB could keep track of all the various issues, of which baseball is only a fraction. I believe his collection in the Metropolitan Museum consists of over 300,000 cards that he mounted in over 300 albums. I can't imagine putting that many cards into Ultra Pro card pages, let alone having to individually paste them or hinge them onto pages with scoth tape, while suffering from arthritis.

Thanks for sharing and best regards,
Craig

1942,1946-47 "Hand drawn," artist-made BB cards - Ever Seen These?

On page six near the bottom, there is an add for "hand-drawn," artist-made baseball cards, in three different series from 1942,1946, and 1947. The sets appear to be quite prolific, with over 500 subjects! Has anyone ever seen these cards? What do they look like?

Corson's inventory

Ironically I ended up with many, if not all, of Corson's checklists so think I know some of what his inventory probably was, depending on if he was counting his collection as inventory. Shown before, but for our newer members, here is one index card from him and a page of a letter from Jefferson to him. I have his "Bray Book of Checklists, 1950" as well as stacks of other papers and lists....Eventually much of it will be shown on the board.

T205 Drums were not even cataloged until 1948! I wonder if the Hindu brand was known at that time.

Thank you for sharing that Leon. I have been doing my own personal digging about the history of collecting and it fascinates me to learn about collectors and values of cards before the early 70s. I wish there were more sources about collecting and values long ago but since it was small hobby amoung adults there is not much out there.
