How to combine two scans into one?
 

Sorry for the selfish thread, but I didn't know where else to go. I have a large 19th century team photo that was too large to scan, so I made two scans. Can someone help me combine them into one scan? I honestly tried to figure it out, but couldn't. Thanks.

You could try free photo stitching software like these (I have never used any of them):

Or open them both up, change the canvas size on one so that it is a bit more than twice as wide, and copy and paste the second part in, and line them up.

I wrote a python script for doing just this.
Works with any number of photos. Great for card collages.

Are you photoshop savvy? That would be the quickest, easiest way to put them together, but it all depends on what you need it for. If you just want to post the end result on-line, and don't care if the tones match perfectly between the two pieces, that would be the way to go. If you need it to look perfect and want to print it out or something, it would take a helluva lot more work.

I'd check with those brothers from candiman auctions. Their photoshop skills are on point.

Is there any easy way to do this with front and back scans of cards? I always cut and paste by hand in paint but have wondered if theres a program where you can put two scans into it and get one scan with front and back side by side.

I've been using this for quite a while now - works great. Author only asks for PP Donation if you like it.

I do it the same way. For me it's pretty quick, and I already have paint.

I highly recommend PhotoStitcher if you plan on doing a lot more "stitching" in the future. $20, but you just pop in the scans and it does the work for you. Sometimes its a bit faulty, such as when you have scans that make it hard to distinguish the area they should be stitched at, but I'd say I have a >95% success rate with it.

Yeap, paint is free with Office, I believe. That is the way I do it too. But the other ways sound doable too.

I have always scanned the front and back pf each card with Paint. It worked well but after thinking about it I think would be nice to see front and back on one image.
