SCP Pick Ups

After about a year and a half of looking for the right specimen, I finally landed myself a T227 Baker. Anyone else get anything good?

timn1 08-11-2013 10:23 AM

Walter! Completed my M116 set (minus the impossible variations)

I seem to have won Lot #190 -- 17 Walter Johnson pieces. I'll be keeping the M116 and T205 but the others will be up for resale. I'll post in the BST but if anyone is interested in any of these pieces, feel free to contact me-

Wrong area, but figured i'd post it in this SCP pick up thread.

Couldn't resist, it was cheap...great example, graded PSA/DNA 10

I got my first Cap Anson, a Ruth & a Mantle. It was too good of a night. Now my wallet is hurting.

I put bids in on the W600 Wagner and the '14 CJ Cobb but lost out in the extended bidding hours. Probably best as their selling points were too rich for my blood.

Shipping charges???!!???

Holy smokes - over $15 for shipping + $0.80 for insurance on an $80 card! Then tack on BP (which is to be expected)... I better be getting a hand delivery from the owner of SCP Auctions at that price (or at least a "happy ending")!! What a joke!!!

Last time I bid on anything < $500 on that site ever again!! $15+ for shipping is like tacking on a second Buyer's Premium at that price point. Yuck!

timn1 08-13-2013 10:46 AM

ouch

That is a lot for a small win. My postage for $2000+ invoice was similar, about $15. (Insurance was $18, understandably.) I guess $15 is their standard p/h figure regardless of lot value. Does make you think twice about bidding on little lots.

If they use Fedex or UPS I don't think there is any getting around it, even for very small items.

glchen 08-13-2013 10:57 AM

Probably just a standard fee with FedEx or UPS. During their last auction, I won a card for ~$2400, and my shipping with $13.33 with an additional $20 insurance. I live in California where SCP is based, which may be a reason for the lower shipping cost.

Derek - If it were me, I would contact SCP and request that they ship via USPS, which is much less costly.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. It's only a few bucks, but it just feels wrong for a "low-dollar" item.

Indicative of why the Post Office is broke and UPS and FedEx are profitable......

I'd call for USPS too.....thats WAY too much for an $80 card. $6-$7 should be MAX

h2oya311 08-19-2013 04:18 PM

Nice guys at SCP. I called today and they agreed to ship via USPS instead of UPS. Saved about $10 in shipping fees for < 5 minutes of hassle-free phone discussion with them. I'm pleased.
