OT: Hurricane Matthew

1 Attachment(s)
Sitting here in downtown Savannah well above any flood potential (that's why Olglethorpe settled here in 1733, on a bluff -- history lesson of the day :)) waiting for Hurricane Matthew to hit.

Just wishing all fellow members in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina a safe next few days.

BTW, if you need to contact me in the next few days, you can find me at the Bier Haus (which, I seem  to be a regular):

I hope you and Bob, don't let the taps run out. Make sure you guys cross the river/bridges around 6pm est there I hear they be shutting them down.

Looks like a good place to ride out a storm. Good luck.
Problem with these storms is the media always wants to push the most dire predictions, as that's what attracts eyeballs and ratings. Up here in NJ, they were harping on a Labor Day weekend terrible storm long after most non professionals figured out that the weekend wasn't going to be half bad. Very frustrating as you need this information badly but it seems they have a vested interest in scaring the hell out of people. Hopefully this spins out further east is not so bad.

Good luck to ya Scott. Us here in Charleston will be getting hit not long after you. Hope this is nothing more than a bad thunderstorm.

Good luck...my parents live in Boynton Beach but are up here in NY for the storm. If you can, let us know how you made out.

I am 35 miles west of Jacksonville on high ground (77 feet LOL). Light rain just started no wind to speak of yet. Conditions expected to worsen as this day progresses. Like Steve said, the local news channels have been broadcasting non stop weather reports for the last 24 hours and it's getting old. Thankful that it appears most of this event should occur in daylight hours, and I am well prepared.

SGC closed today per website

Hoping for the safety of the SGC employees and families in FL too. And that the facility doesn't take a beating.

Batten down the hatches!

And then, down the hatch!

Scott knows how to weather a storm--

Shoebox 10-07-2016 10:21 AM

Best wishes to anyone in the vicinity of the storm.

Stay safe!

I live in south Florida, and was nervous as hell for many days. Took my balcony/patio furniture inside, and put my most valuable cards that are in my condo into 2 Pelican waterproof boxes. Really was sweating out getting hit by a CAT-4. I am in a good 8-yr old building, but a CAT-4 is just so strong. Luckily it missed us here by a hair, so close yet so far. Hit further up the coast. I got a teenie bit of wind, a teenie bit of rain, geez, many days in the summer have worse weather than I got!!!

I was lucky this time!!! Hope everyone else where the storm has gone and still may go will be fine. Good luck to all.

Totally OK in Sav. personally. A lot of damage though.

Didn't even lose electricity. But lost internet until now (but then again what good is electricity without internet :p)

Big thanks to Pete G. for this "Hurricane Special." Certainly helped me keep my mind off the storm :)
