How to go about selling?
 

Posted By: <b>Geoff Litwack</b><p>To pursue my newly narrowed collecting focus, I've decided to sell two of my sets and one half-completed one - I won't say which because I don't want this message to be construed as my sneaking a B/S/T thread into the main forum. They're bread-and-butter prewar sets, and I'm wondering how I to go about maximizing my return - piecing them out on eBay or consigning them whole to an auction seem to be the options. Does anyone have reason to prefer one auction house over another? Looking at closing prices on similar lots, it looks like Mastro, for example, had a big margin over Robert Edwards, suggesting that perhaps REA has more advanced collectors bidding and thus less interest in "common" sets. Or that datapoint could be a blip. Any input is appreciated!

I'd think that it would be better to go thru an auction house and let them do all the work, unless you really want to list them on eBay and do all the work yourself.<br /><br />Jay<br><br>I've just reached Upper Lower Class. Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>Selling singly on ebay, or elsewhere, get's max dollar...Unless you have an off the beaten path set and a lot of them ie....the recent 100 group of T209's in Goodwin Auctions or the T210's before them. Sometimes when I have these kind of lower dollar cards I will put a small group in a single lot on ebay...that way I don't have 10 x $5 ea sales.....Othewise, doing them as a group to an auction house could be disappointing.....and you have little control over the final dollar amount. (publicly anyway)....regards and thanks for not doing the thinly veiled attempt at advertising on the main board. It's appreciated.....

If you don't mind the work, however, I agree that piecemealing the cards on Ebay will get you the most bang for the buck. If you are willing to price the cards rather than letting the market dictate results, you might want to try to use the B/S/T first...

Posted By: <b>andy becker</b><p>you may want to try to price the set, give a small discount, and give the bst a shot. saves on fees. <br />who knows, perhaps you can find what you are looking for in trade.<br /><br />or....you could try selling the set on ebay...as a set. it would only cost a few bucks to list it at your sell price if it didn't sell.<br /><br />also, thanks for respecting the board rules.<br />regards

Posted By: <b>Geoff Litwack</b><p>Thanks to everyone for their responses - once I get a handle on fair prices, I may actually give the BST board a try - I sort of dislike selling on eBay, and I'm not crazy about handing over a comission fee, either (although I know some auctions are comission-free).
