Thank you to Sean Bassik

I wanted to take a moment to thank Sean Bassik for helping me secure a new card for my collection. He is a man of his word and that is greatly appreciated.

calvindog 08-04-2015 11:20 AM

Why the hell isn't Sean helping me?

Did you ever communicate to Sean that you were in need of help? He isn't a mind reader.

Yes, I send him emails every day and leave messages on his phone with my requests. I think he's avoiding me.

I tend to be sarcastic at times; Sean's a good guy and has actually been very helpful to me.

baztacula 08-04-2015 12:10 PM

Oh for sure. He is the salt of the Earth. I would trust Sean with my life.

Jobu 08-04-2015 12:27 PM

Any chance we can see the new addition? I am curious what spurred the thank you on the big board.

EDITED TO ADD: I completely understand if you would rather not post whatever it is, but I had to ask. :D

If the rumors I heard are true, it is this little beauty...

campyfan39 08-04-2015 01:04 PM

Purchased many 52's from him on eBay lately. Super fast shipping, fair prices and accurate grading.

T206

I picked up the T206 Clymer color variation he posted on the boards as show and tell. Great card and getting re-slabbed right now. If someone knows how to work the net better than me they can post a pic.

Sorry, no help here. Took two hours to install a new router this morning and ended up calling The Phillipines for assistance. Hot and muggy on Luzon today...

Jobu 08-04-2015 04:13 PM

I believe that would be this fella:

I don't know whether this reminds me more of an Abbott and Costello routine or a ventriloquist act. Either way, I found this exchange between Jeff and db absolutely priceless.

Well done, gentlemen.

Best regards,

Eric

Dracula clymer is awesome. New meaning to the word ghost. Echoing the sean is a good guy talk as well...

Thank you to Sean Bassik

Agreed, Sean was a big help when I was looking to consign my fathers 52 set. He put his own interests aside and introduced me to a different dealer/auctioneer.

I also witnessed him pay significantly more for a walk in card from a kid due to it being under graded. Card got a bump and a collector witnessing the transaction was so impressed with how Sean handled the purchase he lined up a sale for the card.

Thank you again Sean.

Luke 08-04-2015 06:29 PM

I've made some of my bigger purchases from Sean and I couldn't be happier with how they were handled. That is a really special card, congrats Adam!

Sean (hi Sean) is a good guy. He stumbled out of the gate a bit but understands his mistakes and learns from them. I have never had any issue with Sean and think he's good for the hobby. We just need him to be a collector too!!

I actually do collect wrong back sets now. I am working on a 53 Topps and about 15% of the way in.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I really appreciate them and have made a huge effort over the past few months (years) to improve my attitude and let my business do the talking.

We never really own any of these great collectibles, we're simply the keepers and care givers until the time comes to let another care for the pieces. Some people care for the pieces for 50 years, some people care for the pieces for 50 minutes.

Kind Regards,

Sean Bassik

Jdoggs 08-05-2015 09:34 AM

Congrats Sean on winning the chocolate eating contest!

Sean you are becoming quite verbose

I've only met Sean once, but I have sold him several lots of cards in the last year. Frankly he has used more words in this post than in all of our transactions combined. Usually its "price?" "scan?" or "I'll take it." In spite of his brevity I trust him. He is a man of his word. I look forward to doing more business with him in the future.

Best regards,

Joe

I think I speak for all of us when I say we are long overdue for a Sean Bassik appreciation night. Of course, I would prefer to devote an entire week to honoring Sean but obviously many of us have family and work commitments that would make this impossible. Perhaps you guys can throw out a few dates and we can come to a consensus as to what works best for everybody. Also, we should pick a location that is both interesting and convenient. I hesitate to bring this up but let us kindly refrain from location suggestions such as Blue Ball, Pennsylvania, Boogertown, North Carolina or Spread Eagle, Wisconsin. This is not some platform to try out your lame comedy routine. This is about Sean.

Sean,

Just curous on a wrong back set, how do you base what you need? Do you try for the numbers in order on the back of the card or do you sort them by the number they "should" have on the back? I've always wondered about that.

Thanks and take care,

Mike

As someone that collects wrong backs I try to collect all the different versions. With wrong backs there can be several different backs all with the same player on the front.

Sean this is not a 67 Dexter Press it is a 83 Starliner sticker. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-Dexter-...p2047675.l2557

I reached out to the buyer and offered him $10 store credit.

I am in the same boat as Ben, I have 2x of the same front with different wrong backs. The nicest one is a 1953 Whitey Ford in NM with wrong back. I am hoping one day these errors will be realized for what they are - unique, "low numbered" copies of the cards from the 50's-70's.

mrvster 08-07-2015 07:35 PM

Sean....

I knew you would get bit ;) the collector in you came out:)

now, you have the "scrap" eye as I can see......maybe the scraps will take hold of you:D

GoldenAge50s 08-08-2015 07:03 PM

Seems to me collecting a set of 1953 Topps wrongbacks would be an impossible task.

As a 13 yr old in 1953 I bought hundreds of packs, I have collected '53's for many years and right now have 2 complete sets and many singles, and I have NEVER owned or ran across a '53 Topps wrongback!

I can't believe collecting a full set is even REMOTELY POSSIBLE!

Thank you to Sean Bassik

It's fun to collect a set that's impossible. :)

It's more challenging. It forces me to be on the lookout at all times knowing this could be a 40 or 50 year task (if it is possible).
