Baseball card art
3 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, There's been a lot of threads about artists using baseball cards, so I thought I would add my own two cents. I normally work in oils, either in abstract or impressionist style. Below are scans, the first of one of my abstracts, the next two are baseball cards, one using roy white's 1971 topps card, the other using Alan Trammell's 1981 topps card. My idea is to mimic a sort of fantasy sheet/ proof/ screenprint design. The cards are glued in pattern to board (harder than it sounds), color is added and then the whole thing sealed with galkyd which is a clear medium. Thanks for looking!

Dennis,
Very cool! The Roy White photo on the card has an impressionistic quality by itself. You could do some really neat stuff with the T206 cards as well. |
Wait, you used real cards for this? As in 56 actual 1981 Topps Alan Trammell cards? It's cool artwork, I like the look of the Roy White one, just wondering if it's real cards
I wish someone would start using 1987 Topps cards for art. They would actually look nice with the wood grain and it wouldn't be bad to take them off the market 56 at a time! |
I use real cards. I line them up dry in the pattern I want, then cut to fit and slowly glue each card down using books to keep them from canoeing. I bought 100 trammells on ebay for 20 dollars so I actually have a ton more. I want to do one with the 75 set next. I mix oils for the colors on top.

Interesting stuff.

I want a Roy White. My favorite player when I was a kid. Very cool looking but the frame is too big.
