Keep your kids away from the pre 1930 category right now

Posted By: David Smith
Just a heads up. I went to the pre-1930 baseball card category on eBay and there are a number (of the smae picture) of X rated pictures up. All of them are in the special category (whatever price bracket that is) that leads off the front page. VERY OBVIOUS!!!

David

Posted By: barrysloate
I think those pictures are more sinister than you think.

I once clicked onto one of them that was listed in U.S. Stamps and the next thing I knew my ebay account got shut down. Somehow by clicking on, all your account information gets stolen including your password. I had to reopen my account and it was a huge hassle. Stay away from them (unless they are really good looking).

Posted By: Mark L
Those interviews are funny. It seems to me that one of the features of living in a relatively free and prosperous society is that many of us are free to focus on some very narrow and trivial things. It's an unfortunate possibility. At the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if the interviewer sometimes stumbled across Americans who could answer any question that he threw at them. Are Canadians more worldly? It's hard to generalize: having spent 6 years in Toronto, it seems to me that the average Torontonian knows neither more nor less about world affairs than does the average Bostonian or New Yorker. But Canadians do know infinitely more about our culture, economy, history, politics, etc. than we do about theirs. That is because they find it somehow interesting.

As far as war is concerned, the U. States and Canada have certainly NOT always fought on the same side ("we always have"). Check your 18th and early 19th century history, my friend. Of course, if your point of which citizen is more knowledgable, maybe that's the United States side of you commenting rather than the Canadian.

(by the way, it's "countries")
Posted By: Greg Theberge
Brad,

"we always have" sort of implies, well, always.

Yes, I meant the War of 1812, as well as the Seven Years War and the American War for Independence (Note I didn't say the Revolutionary War, it wasn't a revolution, but that's not a discussion for this forum).

Somehow we tend to forget about things that happened two hundred years ago and dismiss them as they weren't as significant as that which had happened within a more recent period of time.

Sadly, not only does the average person have limited knowledge or interest in current events as that first video shows, but most are completely, and sadly, clueless about history in general. But they do know who Oprah is...

Be well,

Greg
