W519-1 Sisler and Early 1900s Baseball Strip Cards....

A lot of collectors think about collecting vintage and feel it will be too expensive of an endeavor. There are countless ways to collect on a budget and have a lot of fun. One way is with strip cards. Some collectors don't like their crudeness while others enjoy them for that very fact. Personally I have always liked a bit of everything (except liver, I can't stand liver with/without onions, but I digress) and I fall into the second group of enjoying them.
Here is a type of strip card (W519-1) with the mfg. printing on the side border. There are 3 types of W519s and this is the first, and probably most common type. However, only a small % have the printer writing on them and an even smaller % have it full (these are cut strips after all), plain and clear. If anyone wants to share a scan of a strip card, please do.....happy collecting!!

This Tris Speaker with a huge print offset is my favorite strip card that I currently own.

That print offset is awesome looking Ben!

As a low budget guy trying to put together a HOF set I have an appreciation for lots of collectible items that more elitist collectors might turn their nose up. (spremiumstrip cards, magazine supplements, game cards, etc.) Some strip cards can be really ugly and some like the W517 I think are a great value. Here are a few of my strip card pre-HOFers.

And while not pre-war I consider these issues to be strip cards as well.

For the budget collector the nice thing about them is that they are quite often found messed up or missing borders, and then they sell like little birds (cheap cheap cheap).

Wow, that Speaker offset is amazing, not least from the H punch. Any idea if that's a kind of redemption?

Here's a W516 Speaker which matching uneven sides, perhaps torn against by the same odd-angle vending machine.

I always thought it was a I hole punch. No idea about why it would be there though. I collect the weird stuff and bought it for the huge print offset. The slight print offsets are pretty common in strip cards but that one was like WOW, now that is a print offset.:)

Hey Brian VH, do you have any more W504s of Washington players? ;)

Thanks, Brian. I'm salivating!! BTW, how many Mickey Mantle or Ty Cobb cards would I have to trade you to get you to part with Sam Rice? ;) Have you ever seen a W504 card of WaJo? Surely, he must be in this set.
Best,
Val

Val,

Forget Mickey Mantle (unless 1952 Topps. I'm not that nuts.) Cobbs, Wagners and Joe Jacksons. :D

Brian, I was gonna offer you a dozen of my best WaJo cards for your W504 of Sam Rice, but I sense that you aren't interested in WaJos! :D

Brian, I'm not sure if you are putting me on, or what. This Hendlers Ice Cream card of Sam Rice that Bob Lemke (RIP, Bob) shows in his blog is mine - I acquired it many, many years ago - I sent Bob the pic of it, and he does credit me in his blog. It's one of my favorite cards in my Rice collection, even though it is ONLY a strip card!
Val

Ron, nice Matty! I hardly ever see a strip card cut so nicely. Yours should receive a numerical grade from a TPG.
