You know you are a card junkie when.....(part 2)

This was great last time we did it a few months ago so lets try it again.. What got me to think of it was simply reading the newspaper this morning :)>

You know you are a card junkie when .. You look at the front page of the newspaper and notice it has a "ghost overprint" on it and equate it to pre-war baseball cards.

...when you are at Staples looking at their three ring binder display and noticing that it is very similar to your baseball/computer room bookshelves (and you think you have more than they do!).

When you listen to Marmol blow another save, and you look off into space and say "Mordecai would have gone the distance".

When you name your twin boys Allen and Ginter

T206Collector 04-09-2012 08:01 AM

...when you angrily deride the store clerk at Toys R Us, whose rough handling of a $25 toy you just bought for your 5-year old son put a crease in the backing cardboard -- AND you refuse to buy it as a result -- AND you go back to the aisle where the toy was hanging to get a minty fresh new one -- AND when you go back to the checkout counter you make sure to instruct the store clerk as to the proper handling of the cardboard backing of a $25 toy.

After I did this, I felt terrible. I called my wife and admitted I might have a cardboard problem.

All true. Happened two weeks ago.

When you buy a piece of furniture and tell the salesperson that you want the color to resemble the borders of '87 Topps.

Ok, this is scary. I was driving back from my in-laws this weekend and a truck went by. I noticed that the paint color on the truck was the same as the border of a t210.

When a friend says he went to a show over the weekend and you immediately think card show.

When you calculate the cost of things based on what cards you could buy instead.

When the biggest contested item in your divorce isn't the house, car, or pension, it's your collection.

I do that. I also do it in reverse -- like selling cards so I can buy things for the house or family....

When you think that Marmol is the reincarnation of Carl Mays throwing to Ray Chapman.

I stare at little pictures of dead men

When you find yourself defending how attractive Christy Mathewson was to your woman who thinks that he was nothing special in the looks department.

When you look at the sunset and think, "That looks like the one on the Patee." or "That looks like the One on the McIntyre."
And so...

When you evaluate the centering of every rectangle within rectangle object in your life. (Don't start looking...there are more than you think!)

...when you sell drugs to fund purchases of cards!

Ronnie73 04-09-2012 05:31 PM

When you plan each day around ebay auction ending times.

When your buying cards online at 3:30 in the morning when you should be looking in the yellow pages for a 12 step baseball card rehab program.

When you plan a vacation and an internet connection is more important than if they have a pool or if your room faces the beach.

When you talk about deals and scores you made and purchases and packages delivered, people that don't know you think your into illegal activities.

When you look at your school yearbook from 30 years ago and the caption below your picture says "Known as the walking tag sale, Hey, you wanna buy or trade some baseball cards?"

All 5 are very true in my life :D

When the only place this is recognized and understood is in front of a card shop, or at a card show

olrac44 04-09-2012 06:05 PM

When you're known in your high school for buying up upper classmen's collections who don't want them anymore, and you're known as "the dealer" of the school and the teachers mistake that for being the "drug dealer" of the school.

Yeah, mom wasn't happy when that happened.

leon...

that was great....

+1:)

When you're teaching kids and in the back of your mind you're thinking "There are 2 auctions ending tonight" and you smile a little bit.

Premature card junkie

When your soon to be 3 yr old can name every player in the E98 set, asks you daily to show him cards & takes one to sleep in his crib each night

...you go up on eBay to check out the recent appreciation in Bubba Watson cards.

Brian, refer back to the post about the most fought over item in a divorce. I always pretend I didn't hear and walk away.........quickly.

You're a junkie..........

when you cut out missing children's pictures from milk cartons hoping they will end up in the bigs. Don't know whether these would be classified as Rookie cards or Hookie Cards.

Rawn,

When you drive by Piedmont street every morning and think about calling the city council to have the next two streets changed to Polar Bear and Tolstoi ! Brett

When you decide that ramen noodles and grilled cheese are a great idea for a weekly meal, because it opens up a few bucks a week for cards.. The kids love that sh!t though..

You're really a card junkie when it becomes justifiable to do it two or three times a week. Honestly, It's never escalated past once a week though...

Now that's funny!!! My wife said she will keep the cards.

When in the middle of an argument with your wife over your [alleged] failure to perform house chores adequately, she likens her feelings of pride towards the neatness and organization of her home to your feelings of pride in the neatness and organization of your collection.

Happened this a.m. and yes, I lost the argument immediately thereafter.

Adam, I didn't know you considered sex a house chore.

Ouch.

No recovering from that one, I'm afraid.

I know you are quite the litigator, but that case is one you just can't win.

Texxxx 04-10-2012 07:27 PM

1. When you tell yourself that your just going to look and see whats going to be auctioned but not buy. 20 min. later you have bids on 6 cards.

2. When your son comes by with a card you have been wanting and you promise to take him out of your Will if he doesn't sell it to you.

z28jd 04-10-2012 08:29 PM

When you show a good looking girl who works in the store next to you the Old Judge book within a few weeks of meeting her. I swear she asked to see it though!

No idea how I dropped that information about my lifelong hobby before she opened up my closet to see if full of boxes of cards....oh wait, I remember. Johnny V threw me under the bus! Thanks Mrvster for making sure I still have spending money for REA and didn't waste it on stuff like the movies or dinner, stuff you can't send to PSA/SGC :)

ValKehl 04-10-2012 08:57 PM

When you can't let your day end until you have read that day's new Net54 posts, even if it is the wee hours of the morning, which often is the case with me!
