I believe that is a High End (HE) sticker on the tuna's right flank.

AGuinness 01-06-2019 10:12 AM

Plus it has a Heinie Wagner auto on its dorsal fin (full COA)....

i guess the tuna game has whales too

Throttlesteer 01-06-2019 10:42 AM

It was found in Grandpa Moby's Attic

mantlefan 01-06-2019 11:09 AM

If so, the winning bidder got a raw deal. But he could sue, si?

Bill77 01-06-2019 11:32 AM

The auction seemed fishy to me.

frankbmd 01-06-2019 11:41 AM

I may be all wet, but I believe this is the best tuna thread this forum has ever seen.

nolemmings 01-06-2019 11:52 AM

My first look at that big tuna sent me reeling, but the more I see it, the more I'm hooked. I wonder if it took 54 nets to land it. Seems like a good topic for de-bait.

brianp-beme 01-06-2019 11:53 AM

The thread is pretty interesting, but I have already started to tuna it out.

Well Frank, you know what they say, "You can tuna piano, but you can't tuna fish"

The winning bidder burst into song, but he can't carry a tuna.

It does present a good opportunaty for humor though.

nolemmings 01-06-2019 12:24 PM

For those of us unschooled in fish genders, can you tell if that tuna is ahi or a-she?

It's a sue-she

Fred 01-06-2019 12:32 PM

of course there was shell bidding...

frankbmd 01-06-2019 12:38 PM

Gill bidding is rampant in these Japanese Fish Market Auctions.

OLDBILL 01-06-2019 12:46 PM

Assuming the whole thing was used, 612 lbs x 16 oz/lb /12 oz/can = 816 cans of tuna...or... better yet, -one delicious 1909-11 T206 Honus Wagner!

It seems unlikely the bidder will recoup his investment going that route.

This thread had me hook, line and sinker!!!:p

Recently got a catch of mine graded in the group sub to Professional Saltwater Authenticators, but I didn't notice the small problem with the tail, so I got hammered with the dreaded PD (predator defect) qualifier...

Attachment 339833

Throttlesteer 01-06-2019 05:25 PM

It was caught with a Carew Rod.

I guess tuna doesn’t scale up like Honus does.

Bill Parcels remains unimpressed

Stampsfan 01-07-2019 01:15 AM

I'll bet it's more valuable if it remains unopened.

... or if it's remains are unopened.

Lorewalker 01-07-2019 11:31 AM

My friend, Salmon I were going to put a bid on the tuna for the halibut before herring, that Dr. Marlin, a koi heart sturgeon with no sole, would be bidding. Once bidding began some shrimp with mussels tide up the dock who could not raise his paddle to bid.

He may have weighed more at one point.
