Hello:
I recently bought this vintage photo on eBay but not sure whether it is a type 1 original or type 3 wire photo. I have attached the front and back for your review and advice. Thanks very much for your help.

Awesome early Koufax photo, Phil!
I will let the photo experts split the atom, though... ;)

Without having it in hand, I'd say it's a Type II, or Type IV.

Probably a c. 60's era print.

The listed address is New York 17, NY. That means 1967 or earlier.

UPI only formed in 1958. I know stamps can be applied later, but absence any other evidence to the contrary, this is not a type 1. It is also not a wire photo. This is a type 2 or 4 depending on if you think it came from an original or copy neg, printed in the middle 60's. I think its a copy neg from what i can see, but i am on phone now, so could be mistaken.

I would say Type IV.

By no means am I trying to hijack the OP's thread, but I am learning here as well. What do you notice about this photo that hints to you it was produced from a duplicate negative (therefore Type IV)? I tend to agree with your assessment but can't quite put finger on why. Thanks.

The image quality

Image quality. The sharpness of the image. The reason i waffled a little is that on a phone the image is smaller and can be misleading.

Still a really cool photo and valuable so the fact it is a "Type IV" as others have said does not mean the end of the world. Many stamps from the era were used for long periods of time and there are UPI photos from the 1970's that were still using the old stamps so in their case, the stamp is a guide but not definitive as in other cases. I would agree with what others have said, probably mid-late 1960's when people were looking back at Koufax's career, but still over 50 years old!
