Here's the link:

Paper loss on the front, yet still receives a PSA 6? How could it get that grade?

atx840 01-19-2012 02:52 PM

've posted it a few times as its a very nice example of a bad example :D

sportscardpete 01-19-2012 02:56 PM

Nope... That's not paperloss, it's an optical illusion...

Sincerely,

PSA Grader

I don't collect T206's, just signed ones if Paul doesn't scoop them :p, but am extremely interested in putting together the Minneapolis set as I'm from Minnesota, and saw this. Absolutely a gorgeous card, but I cannot see the beauty of the card.

Everytime I look at it, all my focus is in that little darn white spot

Cardboard Junkie 01-19-2012 03:10 PM

An Orange magic marker and resubmit for a 7.5:D

...And I'm clicking buy-it-now :p

Absolutely, no way, positively not did psa miss this. First of all, did anyone email this seller and make sure nothing was on the scan? I was actually a lucky winner of a high grade t206 in a major auction, because alot of people assumed the same thing. It turned out to be a tiny piece of paper on the scan where i guess the case was not wiped down properly, and the auction house did a horrible job of due process. It was a psa 6oc cobb (green ) and i bought the card well below what i would have paid. Come on you guys, do you think psa is this stupid? Do you think they don't care about reputation? psa holders are very easy to tamper with. This is one of their downfalls that they have never corrected. Maybe, the card was switched if it in fact is paper loss. that would be my guess

I don't know if PSA is stupid, I don't even care, because all of my cards are raw, and when I buy a slabbed card of any grade I remove it on arrival, what I do know is that the seller has perfect feedback of 11835 with zero negatives (at least in the last year).

When I asked the seller "Is that a scrape on the top right corner?" the response I got was "Yes".

Then the card was switched out, it's that simple. Stevie Wonder could see that mark.

That is extra paper! Above and beyond the call of duty! I think it got a bump due to the extra paper!

Seller is a great guy, his name is Joe and I stand behind him 100%.

I got another note from the seller (who I have never dealt with, so I'm just some random ebayer contacting him), and he said "Going to pull it down and give back to PSA to correct, thanks for the heads-up."

Did anyone consider that the paper loss occurred after the card was holdered? It's not entirely impossible for flaking to have taken place after PSA graded it. Conversely, maybe a small piece of paper was somehow on the inside of the case before the card was placed inside for encapsulation and it simply looks as if the card has paper loss?

Agree with Dan here, I have had nothing but good transactions with this seller!!

spot

That white spot could have been a loose chip fall off after it was holdered. I have seen chips of paper fall off like that before. I am not saying it did this time but how could anyone miss that? Seriously? Could they have assumed it was a manufacturing error? and didn't ding it for that paper loss?

CMIZ5290 01-23-2012 07:21 AM

Totally agree with leon....no way psa missed that

Bridwell 01-23-2012 05:50 PM

Psa 6??

It seems to me that somebody else at PSA slabs a card after a grader grades a card. A few cards get damaged while the slabbing is getting done. A spot of paper may have popped off while pulling the card out of its plastic sleeve as they were holdering it. PSA will sometimes compensate if a card gets damaged by their staff, but that's a whole other topic...

PSA misses a lot of cards with paper loss. Here is the most obvious example I've ever seen. Big Chief is missing his entire left ear.

I've got other examples of PSA 6s with paper loss if you'd like to see them?

LOL, how about this one? They found the mark on the back and missed the problem on the front? Pretty ugly.

CMIZ5290 01-24-2012 06:42 AM

Keep in mind that psa holders are very easy to tamper with, or so the rumor has it. I think that is the one significant advantage sgc has over psa. I know many collectors who have expressed the problem of cards being switched out....
