Show off your displays..

What brought me back to collecting was a visit to the Orioles Museum near Camden Yards about six years ago. I saw some baseball cards in a display case, was in the process of remodeling my rec room and that was it. I decided to start buying cards for display in my room (with my wife's permission of course).

BTW, I've tried all different types of cases. One that I really like is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/36-Graded-Footba...item35a649e3df

It looks great, the cards don't fall forward like in other cases and it also locks.

I just had some work done in my room so I'll post my pic's later.

Let's see your display rooms!

Dan

Looking forward to seeing pics, Dan!

Some of my displays, that most have already seen, but I am still proud of nonetheless: http://www.collectorfocus.com/collec...regan/displays

Trae, good start. Looks beautiful!

Where did you get the frames that hold your T206's?

Do you have something behind your T206's on the window frame so they won't fade (i.e. like black paper to hide the sunlight)?

T3's are the best cards to display. Unfortunately I only have one of them!

Custom Frame - I copied the concept from another board member, but the coolest part is these cards are in SGC holders and I can take the back off and change out the cards.

Really like this picture Joe. Amazing how these little cards can bring so much color to a room. It's really an awsome idea. If you ever decide to sell, let me know.

milkit1 03-23-2011 09:16 AM

Bowing to drumback. Is that a set PLUS the different backs?

Yes it is. Thank you for the compliment. The "no offer" backs I have are Chase, Tinker, and A Close Play at Second.

SGC Custom Frame

David,

I had my frame shop save the design / layout so he could reproduce the frame in case I want to add more - or if anyone else wants to buy one.

It cost me around $300 - if they ship, I'm assuming you'd have to pay to have it crated up and sent off, but that gives you a ballpark in case you want to buy one.

Here is their info if anyone is interested.

I love these displays. I've often wondered how people diplay thier prized possesion collevtions. I stuggled with this while building my Hall of Fme collection so I met with a friend who owns a high end cabinet shop. I was able to purchase some beautiful maple wood and designed and built five cases that hold upto 40 graded cards each. Each with a locking door and then bolted them to the wall. I'll try to get some pictures up in the near future.

T 206 Southern League display has plastic tracks that plastic sleeves (cards are in) can be slide out and replaced to upgrade cards in set. Added backs of cards and pictures of cigarette packs for show.

Nice Yaz collection.

My wife would kill me if I ever put something like this up in the house. I think I need to build a "guy's room".

Joebrandon....love that frame !!

It's really a great idea. If I ever get my display room...that would be something I would have done.

That Jackson is only a reprint as well as the Cobbs and Hornsby. They are also on a table top not the floof. All other cards in the cases are the authentic ones.

Awesome

Just wanted to bring this thread back up, to note that today is the 100th anniversary of the death of Addie Joss. Matt's display of the Joss All Star photo (further up the thread) is the most awesome and beautiful display I've ever seen.

I always had the idea to frame my SGC graded Cobbs, even more after seeing this thread. I even bought the 8x10 months ago. But I'm too cheap to pay someone to do it, and too lazy to do it myself.

That is, until I had to do some matting for a coach's gift (again, too cheap to pay $60 for two simple mats and too impatient to wait a week). Here's my first crack... $45 for a mat cutter, $16 for mat boards (I still have left overs) and $17 for the frame. When I get some free time, I'll redo the outer mat as the card cutouts aren't quite as clean as I'd like, but it'll do for now.

Erick, awesome display. Wondering if you can provide some detail on how cards are secured? Are they loose and laid into cut out, then pressed against glass to hold secure? Or is something else going on that is not obvious?

Thanks!

Joe, really sweet display. I love the fact that you can easily change out cards. I can't see any evidence of cards being in holders - can you tell when you are up close with naked eye? Any additional details you can provide on how this is put together would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Well, I had anticipated some sort of elaborate contraption inside the frame (which is a shadowbox that allows for multiple depths by use of spacers) to hold the cards in place to secure them. But I was really excited to have the mat cut and wanted to see what they would look like immediately. I ended up with this beautiful design just to hold them for a quick view... and since it "ain't broke" I have no intention of fixing it. Yes... it's construction paper and painters tape.

Thank you Erick. So you simply have card pressed against glass and "floating" on a construction paper background, which is backed by a spacer that is taped to back of mat? I like "ghetto builds" :), especially when they look as good as your display!

wrapperguy 07-06-2011 09:57 PM

There are some amazing displays. Well done all! I am getting divorced and moving into my own place later this month. These have been very inspirational and are food for thought on how to renovate the basement and office.
