Two people want it badly

http://www.ebay.com/bfl/viewbids/371...p2047675.l2565

Wow, I was really surprised by this one. Obviously two people wanting it at most any cost carried it almost a grand over where it would have been had just one dropped out. Looks like the relative newbie with 51 feedback had a max bid in a few days ago .. but curious - wouldn't this have showed him in the lead (next increment higher) each time someone put in a new bid since 6/30?

CrackaJackKid 07-03-2017 07:56 AM

Wow..

That's an insane price for that low of a grade. A***E thought placing a bid of $1200+ last second that it was a done deal. The newbie must of woke up with a bidding hangover.

bobbyw8469 07-03-2017 08:02 AM

agreed....unreal price.

iowadoc77 07-03-2017 08:18 AM

And plenty out there at a lower price. This is what happens when emotion gets involved over rationality

He put in a top all bid/snipe of 1234 and got whammied as someone else did it too, so it seems.

The "old" double snipe to win strategy where the winner loses and the loser wins.;)

Bpm0014 07-03-2017 01:25 PM

^^^^ exactly

He wont pay though. so nothing to see here. Its a real small hobby, if someone is aware that he actually paid, then i stand corrected. Otherwise, we will all go with he didnt pay

Yea, let's all make an arbitrary assumption about someone we don't know's integrity. Sounds like a plan.

I don't agree.

calvindog 07-03-2017 06:11 PM

It's a perfectly centered, seemingly very undergraded CJ of a Hall of Famer. The most recent 4 went for $1491. Who even thinks to not pay for this card which surely looks nicer than most 3s?

ajjohnsonsoxfan 07-03-2017 07:04 PM

Agree with Ed...this one went waaay over value

tiger8mush 07-03-2017 07:26 PM

SGC 30 for $1200 or BVG 2 for 1/3 of the price 3 weeks earlier ...

Personally, I think the BVG 2 looks much nicer.

doug.goodman 07-04-2017 03:19 PM

I don't see a "snipe" bid involved in this auction.

The last bid was placed with 4 minutes and 54 seconds remaining in the auction, which is by no definition a "snipe".

Looks to me like k***r put in his max bid of $1209, and took his loss like a man. He had more than enough time to keep bidding, if he had any interest in doing so.

Hello- I am the seller of this card...I was also concerned about this transaction as usually I get paid fairly quickly when selling a RARE baseball card so I called the winner of the card tonite after seeing this post. It turns out that the bidder account and phone # was correct and was answered. The person that answered the phone stated they knew nothing of the transaction and the address thru system was not theres. The bidder ID is umpireoax12 for anyone who gets a bid from this id, be careful..Seems knowingly or unknowingly, this e bay bidder stated that someone from Mexico that does not have a valid US mailing address used this account name and phone # to buy e bay items (the account is located in LA) but the e mail attached to this is NOT theres. I notified trust and safety at ebay tonite as this is a red flag and they are personally looking into this. Probably the culprits use the name and the address associated, buy the item and then probably open a claim with credit card company to charge back the vendor.

THERE was no snipe involved here, and no sign of fraud until we sent several communications with no response. I have seen crazy bidding patterns before but this one really was not noticeable as the left bid that won was two days prior to the underbidders bid. E bay was very cooperative and is investigating this, my fees will be credited and hopefully no one will get burned in the future.

OH well, not much I can do about this accept have a stiff drink!

well couldnt really expect to get that much on the card in the first place..and it wasnt like people already though the buy wasnt real before even posted this...(others may disagree).. i guess the poster on this thread who thought there was no way this card wouldnt be paid for since its such a great psa 3 can now buy the card from you at the price it was won for or maybe a bit less as he thought the price realized was reasonable (see the part about others may disagree)

I still dont see how the intruder person would make money on this but perhaps theres a way as i have not thought out ways to scam people. I would now say theres a chance the person you talked to may of known more than he let on to you about..

Ah its easy to do when its obvious....its a good plan when its an easy call.

So now this thread means nothing..was no real bidding war.....lots of fake 'sales' out there....its the norm..

we already relisted BIN $750 so if the underbidder wants it, he can get it for a fair price..and it could have easily been two legit bidders so no one really can tell from the bidding pattern if it was one way or another, we have seen many cases of two bidders bidding up a card that was not expected results after many years on e bay.

So the underbidder who bid $1209 didn't want a second chance offer?

painthistorian 07-04-2017 08:58 PM

1914 CJ McGraw

WE offered it to him first at a reduced price from his offer up front due to the circumstances at what we feel would have been a fair price (BIN) and gave him our phone # if he is actually interested, he will contact us. 2nd chance offers usually do not work anyway so we now we will move on but at least e bay knows about this situation.

well when that happens again they can point it out here. Until that happens this thread is the last example and it wasnt a real one..... there are many examples in the past of fake sales as well....so will be interested to see the next 'sale' thats posted

if someone was willing to pay 1209 for the card..not sure why they wouldnt pay 750...maybe 700 if you offer them a direct deal as well...

the 1209 guy could be another fake account as well....correct me if im wrong and that bidder wants to post here to say that he was a real bidder at 1209 but wont pay 750 a day later and ill stand corrected assuming he wont pay the 750....

The underbidder was legit and he has bought from us before and has great feedback. Maybe he did not see our e mails being today is July 4th which is holiday, or maybe he just changed his mind but it was not a fake bidder.

If he doesnt buy the card and had a $500 dollar discount on a $1200 'win' essentially and even more in a direct deal and doesnt buy the card...not sure thats a legit bidder that simply changed is mind...though others will disagree with me...

hopefully he will just buy the card and everything is legit...or you can always just list it for auction again if its heat of the moment that gets you the big prices and people avoid BINs..

i know you run real legit auctions and had nothing to do with with the antics that happened....my issue is with the 'two people that want it badly' which is the name of the thread

Also a person buying a card before doesnt make them legit..they are legit until they aren't....just like good renters..they are great renters until they miss rent..

Baseball cards are a quirky and impulsive business sometimes, people will overpay to "win" an auction and will avoid BIN pricing even if its less, sometimes bidding is done in the heat of the moment and that thought vanishes after its over with, but the underbidder is a buyer of good quality cards and whatever reason he has, if he wants the card, he has been contacted fairly and notified of the situation. If someone else wants the card, its now being offered at a BIN, best offer and if no one wants it, well its not the end of the world. Logically, I do not disagree with you, if it was a legit offer, he's getting a very good savings but maybe it was a spontaneous thought.
