Thank you for letting me join this forum.

Hello All,

My name is Don and I have been collecting baseball cards ever since I was 4 years old and my parents would use them as a method to bribe me to be quiet in church. I have collected cards and autographs of all eras, but specifically love the pre-war period. Currently I am on a Christy Mathewson collecting spree. Additionally, I have enjoyed reading and following this forum prior to membership and look forward to doing so now as a member. You all are an incredible source of knowledge, so once again, thank you.

Welcome Don. You are among friends and Matty is a crowd/forum member favorite.

Christy Mathewson's surname is derived from the name Matthewson meaning son of Matthew.

For the Walter Johnson fans, I plan to research the surname Johnson, and will let the forum know when I have the answer. :D:D:D

Welcome to the board.

this one may require more extensive etymological work. :)
ander is from the greek Andros---more precisely, the genitive form aner.
So we know he is 'of man'. I'm shocked.
Hope this helps. :)

all the best, ole buddy.

and a warm welcome to the newbie.

Hey Don, we have some great discussions about scanners. Have you ever considered getting a new one instead of using the auction house scans? You can pick up a high quality CCD scanner for under $100.

I personally suggest the Espon V33 Perfection, but others use the Canoscan 5600F. Here is a thread on the topic.

Haha ya a new scanner would be a great investment and thank you for the thread. I have one already for work/school, however, I had to use my iPhone screen shots because my cards are back at my permanent resident in Pennsylvania and not currently with me in NC. At the time it is the best I can do!
