Thanks Ted, ACC says 1938-1940 and I think it tends to be more 1940's due to some of the planes included etc. I wonder who won the Piper Cubs? :D

tedzan 01-22-2014 05:09 PM

John

I agree with you....upon close observation of some of the planes in this set, I see what appears to me as early WWII British Fighter planes.

I think I got the 1935 date from a dealer who was selling a large lot of these cards, back in the Willow Grove Show days.

Thanks for the clarification.

Jarbeau must have been an 1880's version of Madonna, Cher or Fergie only going by one name. Hot thighs...scandalous for 1888.

Ted,

Thanks for the compliment on the Crofts advertising piece. Here are a couple of bottles that go along with it.

The smaller one I picked up fairly recently. It is the first time that I have ever seen a smaller Crofts Cocoa bottle with the label in tact.

The best part of the purchase is that about 1/3 of the bottle is still full of 100 year old Cocoa crystals. In case you are wondering, no I don't have the heart (or stomach) to dump them into a glass of milk and see how it tastes. :)

Steve, I have seen a few differing version. Some are one panel (trimmed?), some similar to mine and others have four RC cross logos in red on the back. My example is missing the fine print on the front image, as seen on yours. Great item nonetheless.

good old fashioned legwork and study of asking and selling prices at auctions and shows and a pricing guide or two. Your folding trade card is fairly common. It comes with a few different backs including at least one with a base ball stamping. It looks to be in very nice shape. Fairly big spread even in nice condition as yours appears - 35. - 75. depending on the usual auction/sale factors - think ones with the BB stamping would be most desired.........

no guarantees whether written or implied

The scan of this uncut 1934 GOUDEY (34G) sheet is of a photo I snapped of it back in 1981. Good ole long time collector/dealer and close friend, Bill Bossert,
invited me to his BB card shop in Swarthmore, PA. Bill and I were avid uncut sheet collectors, and he wanted me to check-out this 34G sheet that Rob Lifson
loaned to him for Bill's article in Krause's Spring issue of the Baseball Card Magazine.

This 25-card sheet was reasonably priced in 1981. I was tempted to acquire it. However, my daughter Debbie had just started College. And her tuition costs
were a higher priority to me at that time than my owning a 47-year old piece of cardboard.

This Cracker Jack ad ran throughout 1914, which places it during
the tension in Europe just before and at the beginning of WW I.

As card collectors we all know this ad also ran during the first
baseball card set issued by Cracker Jack. Note the reference to
"each package will be found a novelty or toy to delight and amuse
the little folks."

Oh, what it would have been like to have been around during the
year 1914!

1952 Bowman Gum FB cards......

http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...perLarge25.jpg

Fall of 1952, BOWMAN issued a very artistic 144-card FB set. In order to compete with the very popular larger size 1952 Topps BB cards, Bowman re-sized
their regular set of FB cards. Then re-issued these larger size cards circa....Fall/Winter of '52.

Shown here is a very rare 32-card uncut sheet of the (1st series) Bowman "GIANT SIZE" cards. Major stars on this sheet are Sammy Baugh, Otto Graham,
Y. A. Tittle, Charlie Justice, Charley Trippi, Hugh McElhenny, and Frank Gifford (rookie card).

http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...etLarge19x.jpg

This sheet is quite unique. Veteran FB card collectors cannot recall having seen a Bowman FB (large cards version) sheet such as this one in the past 34 years.
I acquired this sheet in 1982 at a Hobby shop in Media, Pennsylvania.

Thanks for the compliment.

This FB card sheet is one of my favorite pieces in the post-war part of my Sportscard collection.

From an obscure small pamphlet/magazine from 1922, the "LITTLE DELINEATOR", is an advertisement for Babe Ruth. On page 5 is a chance to win an autographed bat and ball by Babe Ruth. All you had to do was send in correct answers and "most interesting short letter on Baseball".

Agree, not sure if we knew where the Fan for Fan's came from before seeing that ad? That is awesome.

Crappy picture but I finally got this in yesterday. SOOO excited to add it to the Campy collection. It's been the top item on my wish list since I saw one in Baltimore in '09.
