T205 Collins White Elephant vs. Yellow Elephant

For a while now, I have been researching the T205 Collins Mouth Closed variation. I've noticed that this particular card can be found with both a yellow and white elephant.

It seems as if the white elephant is much more common than the yellow counterpart, but I wanted to get a better idea by asking the board.

Please post your T205 Collins Mouth Closed -- either white or yellow elephant.

My current example:

Not mine but another example of the yellow counterpart (sorry for the small scan):

White elephant for comparison:

Thanks in advance,

Mine is white. FWIW, my other A's cards also have white elephants.

Pup6913 04-24-2012 04:33 PM

It appears the yellow is more visible in the yellow elephant collins. The printer may have over laid the white elephant with yellow ink causing this. Since the "Yellow Elephant Emblem" seems to be found on Pied.25 backs only so far I would say this is another Variation to add to the set. If anyone can provide proof or reasoning why it is not I would love to hear what your thoughts are.

BTW Turner great job on the Collins research and glad to help you out with what I can. Hope to hear from you soon buddy. Be well.

Hi Turner,
I haven't checked my other A's, but this "yellow baseline" Oldring has always been one of my favorites... The Elephant isn't yellow, but multi colored.... Hope you are well. Brian

That's a cool observation! I have neither...but NICE!

marcdelpercio 04-24-2012 07:01 PM

Great observation, Turner! Just further proof that this set has more discoveries to offer. I look closely for these types of variances and have never noticed this one before. Both of my Collins cards have the white elephant. As with the other previously discussed (but yet unrecognized) variations, I think this one has to go on the checklist.

Turner, good job with this one. I have checked all my A's cards and all have white elephant. I have seen some with a bit of yellow in the elephant like the card below but not the whole thing.

I wanted to give this thread a bump. Does anyone else have a yellow elephant Collins hiding in their collection? Post 'em if you got 'em.

T205 GB 03-08-2013 02:43 AM

Haven't even seen one since July of last yr.

peterb69 03-08-2013 03:53 AM

Mine's white

spec 03-08-2013 12:06 PM

Have 2 Collins (mouth closed), both white elephant, both Hassan backs. Do all Piedmont 25s have the yellow elephant?

Turner,

Mine is a Piedmont #25 and has the white elephant. Or are you saying that the yellow elephant is only found on Piedmont 25s?

Hey Frank,

Like you, my other Collins (mouth closed) has a white elephant w/ a Piedmont 25. I have only seen three Collins examples with the yellow elephant and each had a Piedmont 25 reverse. For now, I think it is safe to assume that both versions can be found with a Piedmont 25---until another one [possibly] surfaces with a different advertisement.

Hope you are well...

Two year bump...

I noticed Dean's cards recently sold a Yellow Elephant with a HLC back. Any others out there?

Would love to hear opinions on whether this should be cataloged as a variation...

I also have Collins WHite Elephant with a Hassan reverse.

Jobu 06-16-2015 01:51 PM

I didn't know that this variation existed, pretty cool.

I notice that the top baseball also appears yellow on the yellow elephant card but the bottom one remains white (they are both white on the standard card). Any guesses how that happened?

Recently purchased mine. White elephant. Piedmont back. You could really get the PSA registry guys fired up with this discovery! Nice work

That would be nice but PSA and SGC don't give 2 shits about T205's and any variations, scraps, errors, misprints, and such.

Econteachert205 06-18-2015 03:29 PM

I've known about the variation for a while similar to the ed walsh pink diamond. Both are on t205 resource, according to their checklist none outside of pied 25 on the collins have been discovered .

asoriano 03-10-2016 10:12 PM

Quick update for the T205 aficionados.

Not the best condition, but picked another example in Chicago. Piedmont 25.
