Dr. Beckett Podcast

Since he is an old school collector and more this is a good audience to introduce these first few podcasts to. There will be more and I'm a "guest" on some of them

Podcast

Hey Rich- Really enjoyed the podcasts. I have listened to all of them- and have found them insightful and interesting. I listen to many podcasts- sports, politics, and entertainment- almost every day- and this one is now in my rotation. I especially found it interesting that Dr. Jim listens to many podcasts at 2X speed. I challenge him to listen to Ben Shapiro at that pace!

Hope to see you and Dr. Beckett at the National!

Rich Klein 07-17-2019 10:55 AM

We'll both be there and I'm sure Jim would like to have you as a future guest so work that out with him :)

He'll probably also want to have your honorable V.P. Richard P. Blandford as a guest :)

Dr. B Podcast

Another thumbs up here. Listened to and enjoyed them all. Dr. Jim sounds exactly as he did when we were setting up at the same mid-west shows some 40 odd years ago. Keep em coming......And I agree Rich, both Kevin and the "Master of the Obvious" Patrick Blandford Jr. the III would be excellent guests!

Dr. Beckett Podcast

Tim Zwick would also be a great guest for Dr. Beckett. I call him the "Zwickapedia" of hobby history........

The podcast is wonderful. Very informative and nostalgic. I wish Dr. Beckett would spend a little more time discussing the trimming/bidding scandals that PSA and PWCC are embroiled in. His insight would be valuable.

I enjoy listening to Dr. Beckett & Rich as well! Great to hear them.

I haven’t gotten through them all yet, but wanted to share my agreement that this is a really enjoyable podcast. It’s nostalgic , interesting, and fun....which pretty much describes the way I feel about card collecting in general.

I have a feeling anyone who enjoys Net54, would enjoy this podcast.

17 years full time, 2 on various contracts (1990-2009) in the price guide area.

I have not had a chance to listen to this yet...does the good DR. discuss how prices were originally decided upon in the early days of price guides????

Rich Klein 08-14-2019 10:35 AM

Pete: That's a great question -- I'll forward that one to Jim

I'm not actually sure on how the final decisions were ultimately made, but price surveys were distributed to many regular show and mail order dealer/collectors in those days on an annual basis to obtain pricing information on whatever issues they had sales knowledge on. I always just assumed the good Dr. compiled that info as the basis for the early guides.

There will be a future origin episode on this topic. I'm just as curious as you all are on this one.

Thanks for sharing this, it looks great and I was able to access it from my usual podcast app. I’ll start listening and get caught up!

I've been enjoying the podcasts through iTunes thank you very much.

I've bought from Burbank Sportscards "Organization Organization Organization" on ebay, and once a buyer realizes they use stock photos it's great. I can't imagine the labor costs involved in scanning every .99c card. But I imagine Burbank Sportscards gets a lot of returns because the items are not pictured.
